“…However, clinical investigations carried out, primarily in Egypt and Senegal on S. mansoni (Ismail et al, 1999; Gryseels et al, 2001), report occasionally individual failures of PZQ in treatment of travellers with schistosomiasis (Alonso et al, 2006). Furthermore, the results from a range of laboratory studies and successful artificial selection of PZQ resistance lines as well as previous evidence of the ability of the schistosome parasites to evolve resistance to oxaminiquine which was in use prior the development of PZQ (Bonesso-Sabadini and de Souza Dias, 2002), continue to raise concerns about the existence or development of potential PZQ resistance in schistosomes in the future (Webster et al, 2008). Imatinib activity on Schistosoma mansoni
