“…The present study also revealed some traits concerning other systems, unnoticed by Travassos (1927Travassos ( , 1928 and Lent & Freitas (1937), as the shape and relative position of the excretory vesicle and the tegument ornamented with scales. Travassos (1927) gave no description of the excretory system or the tegument of B. mazzantii.…”

“…In the present study no immunochemistry was used for the description of the anatomy of B. mazzantii, allowing an overview of the organs, glands and ducts of the reproductive, diges-tive and excretory system, along with the musculature of the body wall, the tegument and attachment organs. Brachylaima mazzantii was known only from its original description (Travassos 1927) and the subsequent morphological information given by Travassos (1928) and Lent & Freitas (1937). Until now, no attempt has been made to address the morphology of this species by means of modern microscopy techniques.…”

“…The genus Neoleucochloridium Kagan, 1951, is reduced to subgeneric rank on the grounds of the similarities between its larvae and those of Leucochloridium Carus sensu stricto, as shown in Table III. Travassos & Kohn (1966) and, among others, Yamaguti (1971) placed the genus Urorygma Braun, 1901 within family Leucochloridiidae. Urorygma cannot be included within this family because of the arrangement of the reproductive organs and is placed among the genera incertae until further information on both larval and adult stages is available (also according to Kagan, 1952b).…”

“…Urorygma cannot be included within this family because of the arrangement of the reproductive organs and is placed among the genera incertae until further information on both larval and adult stages is available (also according to Kagan, 1952b). The genus Paraurotocus erected by Travassos & Kohn (1966) and based on Urotocus fusiformis Mclntosh, 1935, which apparently lacks an acetabulum, is not accepted as the species is closely related to Urotocus (status emended, also according to Kagan, 1952b;Yamaguti, 1971). The three genera Panopistus Sinitsin, 1931, DoUfusinus Biocca & Ferretti, 1958and Pseudoleucochloridium Pojmanska, 1959 have all been occasionally linked to the Leucochloridiidae but as they all infect mammals they are regarded as belonging to the Brachylaimidae also, on both larval and adult characteristics (see Mas-Coma & Gallego, 1975).…”

“…After the dehydration, the cestodes and trematodes were cleared in Hoyer solution and placed between the slide and coverslip for observation by optic microscopy (PESSOA, 1967). Helminth specimens were identified following taxonomic keys of Travassos (1913Travassos ( , 1914Travassos ( , 1919Travassos ( , 1921, Yamaguti (1958Yamaguti ( , 1959Yamaguti ( , 1961, Travassos and Kohn (1966), Travassos et al (1969), Vicente et al (1995) and Saif et al (2008).…”
