Revision of Brachystethus (Heteroptera, Pentatomidae, Edessinae)

Abstract: Brachystethus Laporte, 1832 is revised. Brachystethus coxalis Breddin, 1904, B. cribrus (Fabricius, 1781, B. geniculatus (Fabricius, 1787), B. improvisus Breddin, 1905, B. rubromaculatus Dallas, 1851, B. signoreti Stål, 1872, B. tricolor Bolívar, 1879, B. vexillum Breddin, 1903 and B. vicinus Signoret, 1851 are redescribed based on morphological characters, with emphasis on genitalia of both sexes. A new species, B. schuhi, from Guyana, is described, and B. discolor (Walker, 1867), incertae sedis, is remove… Show more

“…22.29 ,22.30 ,22.31 ,22.32 ,22.33 ,and 22.34 ). Female internal genitalia: Description is almost the same of Pentatominae but capsula seminalis with 3 digitiform processes and a beak-like projection on the thickening of the vaginal intima (Barcellos and Grazia 2003b ). Male internal genitalia: The phallus of Edessinae is quite simple; phalloteca is strongly esclerotized, tubular to pear-like, and elongated; conjunctiva absent; vesica small, elliptical in lateral view; and ductus seminis distalis short, not or slightly surpassing the apex of vesica.…”
