Parâmetros ecocardiográficos como preditores de eventos cardiovasculares em pacientes em hemodiálise

Abstract: Background: Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on hemodialysis have high rates of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Although structural and functional echocardiographic alterations in patients undergoing hemodialysis have been the subject of several survival analysis studies, the prognostic value of these alterations is not well established in literature.

“…Several studies have suggested that DM is a predictor of mortality, especially due to cardiovascular causes arising from accelerated aterosclerosis. 20 Similar results have been found in several studies, 18,[21][22][23] although this study did not prove such association. One of the limitations of our study, as well as in the study of Angelo et al, 20 is not to be able to include and evaluate all the variables needed to assess survival in diabetic patients, as the type of DM, smoking, BMI, physical exercise, dyslipidemia.…”

“…These rates are comparable to those found by Siqueira et al [18], who found survival rates of 96.5% and 83.0% in one and two years, respectively. Data from dialysis censuses show survival rates of 88.6% in one year and 79.1% in two years in Europe [19] and 77.4% in one year and 63% in two years in the USA [1].…”

“…Some studies have reported LV systolic dysfunction in all patients of HD [13,14] which is very high as compared to our study and the above-mentioned studies. The possible reason for this high proportion may be that these studies used the positron emission tomography scan for determination of systolic dysfunction that uses contrast-induced ischemic changes for diagnosis of ischemia and is superior to echocardiography for determination of cardiac dysfunction [14].…”
