Dynamics and carbon storage in primary forest in the region of Manaus / AM ABSTRACTThis study analyzed data from three fore… Show more

“…The obtained annual rates of biomass increase for trees DBH ≥ 20 cm, observed between 2001 and 2011, were similar to those found by D'Oliveira et al, (2017) in a similar forest in the same region. They were also similar to the results in other studies in dense and open ombrophilous terra-firme forests in Amazon (De Carvalho, 2004;Teixeira et al, 2007;Vasconcelos et al, 2009;Souza et al, 2012Souza et al, , 2017).…”

“…The annual mortality and recruitment rates (Fig. 3), presented a characteristic pattern of native tropical forests, with no history of selective logging, with rates of 1 to 2% per year (Fernandes et al 2017, Souza et al 2012, exception to recruitment rates recorded from 2008 to 2012 and mortality rates from 1995 to 2008 in T1 plots, where the mortality rate was similar to the standard found in a logged area in Floresta Nacional do Tapajós -2.6%, 2.4% and 2.2% per year for five, six and eleven years after harvesting, respectively (Silva et al 1995).…”

“…Other approaches consider the direct ratio between the number of recruits and density before the study commencement (Condit et al, 1995;Colpini et al, 2010;Souza et al, 2012). Regarding the recruitment of individuals of a species present at baseline, all of the above methods may be used.…”

“…Regarding the recruitment of individuals of a species present at baseline, all of the above methods may be used. However, regarding the ingress of a new species in the community, in which the initial density of the species is nil, some of these approaches, such as those based on the ratio between the number of recruits and the initial density of the species (Condit et al, 1995;Sheil & May, 1996;Colpini et al, 2010;Souza et al, 2012) or the model…”
