Worldwide, the second most traded fruit is banana, which is highly appreciated by Brazilian consumers. Moreover, new technologies have been used to improve fruit quality during cultivation. This study aimed to assess the influence of plastic bag colors on the production and quality of banana ‘BRS Conquista’. The treatments consisted of the use of commercial polypropylene bags e colored white, black, red or blue, in addition to the control (non-bagged). This study used a randomized complete block design with five treatments, four replicates and four plants per plot, totalling 80 plants. The assessments consisted of bunch mass; rachis mass; fruit total mass; mean cluster mass; number of fruits per bunch and per cluster; and fruit length and diameter; along with fruits physicochemical traits, such as soluble solids, titratable acidity, pulp/peel ratio and maturation index. The results indicated that no interference was obtained from the different plastic bag colors in the productive variables. However, a greater content of soluble solids was observed in the non-bagged bunches.

The banana fruits of 'FHIA 18' have sensory properties like the 'Prata' ones. However, there is no information regarding to phosphorus (P) requirement of this hybrid and its effects on postharvest quality. This study aims to evaluate the physicochemical properties of 'FHIA 18' banana fruits submitted to different phosphorus levels under the edaphoclimatic conditions of the municipality of São Manuel, state of São Paulo, during three successive production cycles. Therefore, different levels of Phosphorus (0 [0%], 20 [50%)], 30 [75%], 40 [100%], 50 [125%] and 60 kg ha -1 year -1 P 2 O 5 [150%]) were applied during three production cycles. A completely randomized design and split plot structure was used, the plots consisted of six phosphorus fertilizers doses and three production cycles (2014, 2015 and 2016) in sub plots. For unripe fruits, we evaluated the contents of dry matter, starch, total sugars, reducing sugars and phosphorus. For ripe fruits, we analyzed firmness, peel colour descriptors, total titratable acidity, total soluble solids, maturity index, total sugars and reducing sugars. Results showed that P fertilizer provided an increase in P content in unripe fruits until the application of 100% of the recommended dose; besides an increase in the reducing sugar contents until the application of 61% over the first production cycle. Results also indicated that applying lower phosphorus doses (˂100% of the recommended dose) promoted lower total titratable acidity and higher maturity index (52-53% of recommendation) in ripe fruits. Regardless of P 2 O 5 dose, the contents of dry matter, starch and phosphorus increased in unripe fruits from first to third crop cycle, as well as the firmness, total soluble solids contents, maturity index and sugar content in ripe fruits. Effect of bagging and "deschire" of the banana (Musa acuminata Colla) crop on the populations of thrips (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) ABSTRACT. Argentina's banana production is exclusively destined for domestic consumption and can be used to illustrate management deficiencies in production and post-harvest stages. Banana fruits are very sensitive to injuries and thrips (Thysanoptera) damage results in loss of commercial value. The aim of this work was to study the effects of bagging and its association with "deschire" (manual removal of male floral structures) in relation to the incidence of thrips on the flowering and fruiting of banana (Musa acuminata Colla). The study was carried out during 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 in Laguna Naineck (Formosa, Argentina). Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four treatments and four replicates was used during two production cycles. The abundance of the insects was determined in three strata of banana bunches and the incidence was estimated at harvest. The only species of thrips present during the study was Frankliniella brevicaulis Hood. A higher number young thrips were detected in the lower strata of bunches. Bagging of the banana bunches with deschire reduced the incidence of F. brevicaulis by 54% and 66% each year of study respectively and favored an increase in the length of the fingers compared to a control crop, in 9% and 10%for the first and second year of study respectively. La producción bananera argentina está destinada exclusivamente al consumo interno y muestra deficiencias de manejo en las etapas de producción y poscosecha. Los frutos del banano son muy sensibles cuando se producen lesiones, por lo que los daños ocasionados por insectos, como los trips (Thysanoptera), favorecen la pérdida de valor comercial. El objetivo de este trabajo fue estudiar los efectos del embolsado, asociado o no al deschire, en la incidencia de trips en la floración y fructificación del banano (Musa acuminata Colla) durante dos ciclos de producción (2010-2011 y 2011-2012), en Laguna Naineck (Formosa, Argentina). Se utilizó un diseño de bloques completamente aleatorizados (RCBD) con cuatro tratamientos y cuatro repeticiones. La abundancia de los insectos se determinó en tres estratos del racimo, y la incidencia, durante la cosecha. La única especie de trips presente durante el estudio fue Frankliniella brevicaulis Hood. Se detectó un mayor número de larvas de trips en los estratos inferiores del racimo. El embolsado de los racimos con deschire redujo la incidencia de F. brevicaulis en un 54% y 66% cada ciclo de estudio www.biotaxa.org/RSEA.
