“…A higher frequency of smoking habit and alcohol consumption was observed among males, the same found in other studies 18,21,30 . Excess weight and especially abdominal obesity correlate with most of the cardiovascular risk factors, mainly with high levels of triglycerides and reduced levels of HDL, with a higher impact on the increase of blood pressure, as markedly The frequencies of high levels of total cholesterol and LDL remained practically unchanged with increases in BMI and waist circumference, as observed in other studies 25,33,34 , possibly indicating a lower interference of excess weight and central fat distribution in increases in blood levels of these lipids.…”

“…(24) Anthropometry identified that 70% of elderly are overweight (25) and 89.8% of women have abdominal circumference > 80 cm, being an indicative of increased risk for cardiovascular disease, as shown in other studies. (26,27) Associated with this health condition and confirming other studies of aging, it was observed a high prevalence of chronic diseases such as anxiety, chronic pain, osteoarthritis, hypertension and diabetes mellitus. (23,28) The natural aging process causes structural and functional deterioration, generating alterations in the psychomotor function and balance, predisposing to falls.…”

“…Studies that used the reference point ³ 130mg/dL observed lower prevalences than that found in our study, as the one carried out by Bertolami et al 20 with metal sheet employees from São Bernardo do Campo (SP), that found 37% of individuals with high levels of LDL-cholesterol, and the study by Cardoso et al 24 , in Cotia, observed a prevalence of 34% of that dyslipidemia. The study by Cercato et al 25 did not show any association among the increase in levels of total cholesterol and LDLcholesterol and obesity.…”
