OBJECTIVE:To estimate the burden of disease due to tuberculosis in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, in 2009.METHODS:This was an epidemiological study with an ecological design. Data on tuberculosis incidence and mortality were collected from specific Brazilian National Ministry of Health databases. The burden of disease due to tuberculosis was based on the calculation of disability-adjusted life years (DALYs). The DALYs were estimated by adding the years of life lost (YLLs) and years lived with disability (YLDs). Absolute values were transformed into rates per 100,000 population. The rates were calculated by gender, age group, and health care macroregion.RESULTS:The burden of disease due to tuberculosis was 5,644.27 DALYs (92.25 DALYs/100,000 population), YLLs and YLDs respectively accounting for 78.77% and 21.23% of that total. The highest rates were found in males in the 30-44 and 45-59 year age brackets, although that was not true in every health care macroregion. Overall, the highest estimated burden was in the Planalto Norte macroregion (179.56 DALYs/100,000 population), followed by the Nordeste macroregion (167.07 DALYs/100,000 population).CONCLUSIONS:In the majority of the health care macroregions of Santa Catarina, the burden of disease due to tuberculosis was concentrated in adult males, the level of that concentration varying among the various macroregions.

IntroduçãoA dengue é uma arbovirose que a partir da dé-cada de 90 passou a se destacar no cenário da saúde pública brasileira. Atualmente representa um dos problemas de saúde pública de maior relevância nacional 1 . De acordo com a Organização Pan-Americana da Saúde (OPAS), o Brasil é responsável por aproximadamente 70% dos casos de dengue notificados nas Américas e está entre os países com as maiores taxas de letalidade por febre hemorrágica da dengue, chegando a atingir em anos mais recentes valores superiores a 10% 2,3 .No Brasil, a dengue é uma doença de notificação compulsória, devendo ser comunicada às autoridades sanitárias locais por profissionais de saúde e responsáveis por instituições públicas ou particulares de saúde 4 . A vigilância e o controle da dengue ocorrem de forma padronizada e descentralizada em todos os municípios do país, e os instrumentos mais relevantes aos sistemas de informação em saúde existentes são as fichas de notificação e investigação de casos e óbitos suspeitos de dengue, bem como a Declaração de Óbito 5,6 . No Brasil, atualmente, existem três sistemas de informação que incluem dados de mortalidade por dengue, são eles:

OBJECTIVE:To analyze the underreporting of the tuberculosis (TB) and AIDS comorbidity. METHODS:Surveillance study using records from the Notifi able Diseases Information System -Tuberculosis and AIDS in Brazil from 2000 to 2005. Records of TB without information on the presence of Aids were considered to be underreporting of the comorbidity when paired off with AIDS records in which the year of diagnosis of AIDS was the same or previous to the year of reporting of TB, as well as records from the same patient whose previous records had this information. An indicator was created: recognized TB-AIDS comorbidity, based on the TB records that had information on the presence of AIDS. RESULTS:The underreporting of TB-AIDS was 17.7%. This percentage varied between states. The incorporation of the underreported records into the previously recognized ones increased the proportion of TB-AIDS in Brazil from 6.9% to 8.4%. The highest proportions of underreporting were noted in Acre (Northern), Alagoas, Maranhão and Piauí (Northeastern) (more than 35% each) and the lowest in São Paulo (Southeastern) and Goiás (Central-western) (around 10% each). CONCLUSIONS:The underreporting of the TB-AIDS comorbidity found in Brazil will probably trigger modifi cations in the surveillance system in order to provide information for the national programs.
