Resumo: O objetivo é compreender o processo de construção dos significados atribuídos pelos pacientes em relação à vivência da comorbidade tuberculose e HIV (TB/HIV), e sua repercussão nos respectivos tratamentos. Diante da complexidade do objeto, optou-se em estudá-lo à luz do referencial teórico do construcionismo social. O estudo qualitativo envolveu a realização de entrevista semiestruturada com dez pacientes com TB/HIV, acompanhados em um hospital na cidade do Rio de Janeiro. Os dados coletados foram submetidos à técnica de análise de conteúdo temático, organizados em cinco eixos: a) paciente e suas doenças; b) apoio; c) significados do tratamento; d) relação com o serviço de saúde; e e) estigma, preconceito e discriminação. Os resultados sinalizam que a vivência das duas condições e seus respectivos tratamentos é uma experiência difícil, trazendo sofrimento acentuado à vida dos pacientes. A TB acirra a dor do viver com HIV/Aids. O estigma da TB é reforçado pelo estigma da Aids, aumentando a vivência de medo associado ao preconceito. À família, à religião e ao serviço de saúde é atribuído papel fundamental, como lugar seguro e de preservação da identidade. Apesar do sofrimento físico, psicológico e moral e das dificuldades com ambos os tratamentos, é possível fazer conciliações no cotidiano. Palavras-chave: TB; HIV; TB/HIV; construcionismo social; adesão ao tratamento.

Purpose: To identify social representations of tuberculosis among individuals with the disease who were receiving treatment at a specialized service in a municipal district of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Methods: The sample consisted of 25 individuals with Tuberculosis. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The theory of social representations guided the content analysis of the data. Results: The main theme was "living with tuberculosis is suffering." This theme was support by three sub-themes: (a) treatment of tuberculosis is difficult; (b) tuberculosis isolates people; and (c) tuberculosis changes an individual's perception of himself or herself. The representations of tuberculosis were expressed as loss, sadness, dissatisfaction, and revolt. Conclusion: The representations of tuberculosis as a suffering condition indicate the need to develop support network for people with the disease and the need to work through prejudices, being afraid of the disease, and indifference to people with the disease. Key Words: Tuberculosis; Social representations; Qualitative Research RESUMO Objetivo: Conhecer as representações sociais da tuberculose de pessoas acometidas pela doença e atendidas em um serviço de referência de um município de Santa Catarina/Brasil. Métodos: Os dados foram obtidos através de entrevistas semi-estruturadas realizadas com 25 pessoas de um serviço de referência. A analise foi efetuada sob a ótica da análise de conteúdo, tendo como referência a teoria das representações sociais. Resultados: A análise dos dados nos levou a compreender que há um tema central que expressa como representam a tuberculose: viver com tuberculose é sofrido, apoiado em três categorias: O tratamento é difícil, a tuberculose afasta as pessoas, a tuberculose muda a percepção de si. As representações sobre a tuberculose foram expressas num relato de perdas, de tristeza, de descontentamento e de revolta. Conclusão: As representações da tuberculose como sofrimento apontam a necessidade de promover a criação de uma rede de suporte às pessoas com tuberculose e de trabalhar preconceitos, medos e respeito às diferenças. Introduction: Tuberculosis is a major public health condition worldwide. The partnership between Healthcare Services and the patient is the gold standard for a successful healing outcome and a reduction in the harm the disease causes to patients and society in general.Objective: To analyze the vulnerability aspects that make tuberculosis healing difficult according to the perspective of patients and public healthcare managers. Methods: This is a descriptive study conducted in the year 2013 inCajazeiras, a town located in the state of Paraíba in the northeastern region of Brazil. The study population was composed of 4 healthcare managers and 29 patients with confirmed tuberculosis diagnosis. In order to gather the sample of tuberculosis patients, a search on the Information System on Diseases of Compulsory Declaration (SINAN, in the Portuguese abbreviation) was run.
