RESUMO: Objetivo: conhecer as percepções de mulheres com câncer de colo uterino sobre o tratamento braquiterápico. Método: pesquisa exploratória e descritiva, de abordagem qualitativa, com 16 mulheres em tratamento braquiterápico em um serviço especializado de Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brasil. Os dados foram coletados no segundo semestre de 2008 por meio de entrevistas e submetidos ao método de análise do discurso do sujeito coletivo. Resultados: a partir dos dados coletados, foram extraídas ideias centrais que originaram três discursos do sujeito coletivo: Falta de informações sobre o tratamento com braquiterapia; Braquiterapia: um procedimento desconfortável; e, Acreditando na cura e tendo fé em Deus. Conclusão: os resultados fornecem subsídios para o cuidado de enfermagem e destacam a importância de atividades de educação em saúde para orientar e informar as mulheres com câncer cervical sobre o tratamento braquiterápico. Method: it is an exploratory and descriptive study of qualitative approach, with 16 women in brachytherapy treatment at specialized service of Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Conclusion: the results provide subsidies for best practices in nursing care and highlight the importance of health education activities to guide and inform women with cervical cancer in brachytherapy treatment.
