Abstract: Objective: To predict insulin resistance in children based on anthropometric and metabolic indicators by analyzing the sensitivity and specificity of different cutoff points. Methods:A cross-sectional study was carried out of 109 children aged 7 to 11 years, 55 of whom were obese, 23 overweight and 31 well-nourished, classified by body mass index (BMI) for age. Measurements were taken to determine BMI, waist and hips circumferences, waist circumference/hip circumference ratio, conicity index and body fat perce… Show more

“…Regarding the ROC curve for variables, HOMA-IR, glycemia, and insulin resistance, the AUC values were greater for BMI, WC, and WHtR. Moreira et al ( 30 ) , in a study involving 109 children between seven and 11 years old from a public school in Taguatinga, DF, Brazil, found that, in the diagnosis of alteration in HOMA-IR, the largest AUC was for the BMI (AUC - 0.90/0.83-0.97), and the smallest one was for the WHR (AUC - 0.67/0.46-0.87). Besides, insulin resistance was associated with adolescence in a study with 196 children and adolescents between two and 18 years old from Campina Grande, PB, Brazil.…”

“…In addition, TG:HDL-C ratio was also found to be significantly correlated with waist circumference (p < 0.001). A number of studies have reported significant predictive power of waist circumference as anthropometric surrogate marker in predicting insulin resistance among children14151617. Hence, indicating the practicality of introducing TG:HDL-C ratio as a relatively simple biochemical marker for IR.…”

“…A cross sectional study by Hirchler et al showed that WC was slightly more powerful than BMI or WHR to predict IR ( 12 ). Moreira et al, and Manios et al, also evaluated BMI, WC, WHtR, BF%, conicity index, and some laboratory parameters to predict IR ( 11 , 45 ).…”
