Estudo preliminar da ação do fungo Ceratocystis fimbriata Eli. & Halst., causador da seca da mangueira (Mangifera indica L.), sobre cacaueiros (Theobroma cacao L.)

Abstract: IVAN JOSÉ A. RIBEIRO e FAUSTO JOAQUIM CORAL. Show more

“…The mycetangia may produce anti‐microbial secretions that kill foreign bacteria and fungi (Mayers et al, 2022), and possibly C. lukuohia and C. huliohia . However, some pathogens have neutral or even positive effects on Scolytinae reproduction; for example, H. mangiferae , the vector of C. fimbriata in Brazil, can be reared from cultures of the pathogen (Ribeiro, 1980). The ability of ambrosia beetles to coexist with ROD Ceratocystis spp.…”

“…Ceratocystis fimbriata is well known on M. indica, F. carica, Eucalyptus spp., Gmelina arborea Roxb., Theobroma cacao L. and other hosts in Brazil (Bastos & Evans, 1968;Ribeiro & Coral, 1968;Muchovej et al, 1978;Valarini & Tokeshi, 1980;CABI, 2001;Zauza et al, 2004), but there is some host specialization seen in isolates from these and other hosts (Harrington 2001;Baker et al, 2003). It has been reported on C. esculenta (taro) in Asia and the Pacific, and there are also reports of the fungus on Xanthosoma spp.…”

“…Cross-inoculation experiments with Colocasia esculenta and Ipomoea batatas with their respective isolates from Japan did not show disease symptoms in the other hosts (45). Isolates obtained from Mangifera indica were unable to cause symptoms in Theobroma cacao (55). In a study with S isolates from Acacia decurrens, Crotalaria juncea, Ficus carica, and M. indica, no symptoms were found on Gmelina arborea, L batatas, and T. cacao (35).…”
