A microcirculação no diabetes: implicações nas complicações crônicas e tratamento da doença

Abstract: Diabetic microangiopathy is responsible for an important rate of morbidity and mortality related to the disease. Endothelial damage seems to be the triggering factor in the pathogenesis of microvascular complications. Diabetes mellitus and other metabolic diseases are associated to endothelial dysfunction, the most precocious known marker of atherosclerosis. Changes on microvascular reactivity are present in patients with diabetes mellitus, as well as in individuals with risk factors for this disease. Evaluati… Show more

“…Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder resulting from deficiency in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both, promoting disturbance of carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism. Longterm complications of diabetes mellitus include retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy, microangiopathy and increased risk of cardiovascular disease (1,4,5).…”

“…Resistance of cells towards insulin acceptability leads to the abnormal hike in the glucose level with the outcome of postprandial hyperglycemia [3,4]. Diabetes is a single disease with myriad negative side effects that is followed by impairment of functions of kidney, heart, eye and nervous system affecting carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism [5][6][7]. This multifactorial disease needs in time attention to ameliorate the negative effects of the disease with proper administration of antidiabetic medicines like insulin, sulfonylureas, biguanide, glucosidase inhibitors, aldose reductase inhibitor, thiazolidinediones and insulin like growth factor.…”

“…The microcirculation represents a unique environment that acts as the site of gas and nutrient exchange between blood and tissues 1. Microvessel networks are often idealized as a set of vessels of different categories that are connected in a series with the parallel vessels in each category exhibiting identical properties 1.…”
