A new concept for insect damage evaluation based on plant physiological variables

Abstract: The objective of this study was to determine the damage levels caused by Orthezia praelonga Douglas, 1891 and Leucoptera coffeella (Guérin-Mèneville 1842), on rangpur lime and Obatã coffee leaves, respectively. Measurements were based on a new concept for the evaluation of the following plant physiological parameters: photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, leaf temperature and transpiration, and internal concentration of CO 2 (by infrared analyzer). A negative correlation between infestation level and photosynt… Show more

“…The NA with the contents of chlorophyll in the leaves also showed a similar trend. Golawska et al (2010), Calatayud et al (2008), Neves et al (2006) and Stone et al (2001) observed a significant decrease in the values of physiological variables of the plant to increase the plague poblacionalmente, with direct effects on the commercial quality of the flower stalk (Tjosvold and Chaney, 2001). The interruption in the development of floral structure increases with population growth of T. urticae, dispersión en tejido con daño por ácaros, lo que remarca la disminución de la actividad fotosintética en determinados cultivares.…”

“…Researches related to determination of physiological responses of the plants according to attack by insects may help, with other factors, as costs of phytosanitary treatment and production value, in order to determine the level of economic damage, and, consequently, the level of pest control, increasing integrated management system (Neves et al, 2006), since, the level of control is based on the number of insects per leaf,…”
