Shoot position, cutting types and auxin treatments influence rooting response on Tecoma stans

Abstract: This study investiges the rooting ability and the growth performance of lower and upper shoot positions and type of the cuttings, i.e. soft and hard wood and leafy and non leafy, of Tecoma stans (L.) Kunth. The cuttings were collected from 4-year old plants growing in the Chauras Campus of H.N.B. Garhwal University Srinagar Garhwal, Uttarakhand, India. The rooting ability of cuttings was studied under the treatments of indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) and Indole 3-acidic acid (IAA) under 0.0%, 0.3%, 0.4%, 0.5% conc… Show more

“…The results of Table (2) indicate that there are no significant differences between all the field capacity values used in the description of the increase in the diameter of the main stem, although the large values of the field capacity (75 and 100%) gave seedlings with large diameters in their main stems. The results of Table (2) indicate that there are no significant differences between all the field capacity values used in the description of the increase in the diameter of the main stem, although the large values of the field capacity (75 and 100 %) gave seedlings with large diameters in their main stems however, it did not reach the level of significance compared to the treatment of water stress by (50%) of the field capacity value, while the results of the single effect of each of the regular and Nanochitosan biocomposite factors indicated a significant increase in the characteristic of the increase in stem diameter of Tecoma seedlings, the concentration (150 and 300 mg. L -1 ) of regular chitosan recorded the highest significant increase in the stem diameter of the seedlings, at a rate of (2.148 and 2.440 mm), respectively, with an increase rate that reached (20.94 and 37.38 %) sequentially compared to the comparison treatment that gave Seedlings with weak stems averaged (1.776 mm).…”

“…Tecoma stans (L.) Juss. ex Kunth is an ornamental shrub, erect, branched with slender gray-brown branches, semi-smooth, funnel-shaped, with little odor, bearing the form of short clusters of length (15-20 cm) and width of (6-8 mm) [2], and the green leaves The serrated leaves give beautiful background shapes to the vibrant flowers of the tekuma stans bush, which attract birds and insects such as butterflies and honey bees [3]. In the Arab world, tekuma bushes are grown for the beauty of their flowers, their tolerance to drought, and their rapid growth [4].Water stress, leads to a negative impact in vegetative growth indicators by stimulating the production of free radicals that have an oxidizing effect on plant cells and thus transforming to double stress resulting from water stress and oxidative stress, which exacerbates the negative effect on various growth indicators in plants [5].…”

“…For EL, NR, and GY, the higher values obtained using phytohormones were probably due to the positive effects on root growth and photosynthesis. Indolebutyric acid, present at low concentrations in this biostimulant, stimulates the growth of the root system (Taiz et al, 2017;Lima et al, 2018) proven by positive results in the growth of the root system of other species, as observed in studies by Azevedo et al (2021) and Singh et al (2021). The cytokinins present in the phytohormones also act on the root development of plants by regulating cell division, increasing the size of the apical meristem of the root and playing an important role in the proliferation of the initial cells and vascularization of the root (Taiz et al, 2017).…”

“…Tecoma stans belong to the family Bignoniaceae, which includes many species are mostly evergreen trees (Singh et al, 2021). Original home of this tree is South America and has spread to many other countries, which indicates the ability to incur different climatic conditions (Mesquida et al, 2017).…”
