Knowledge sharing (KS) is a challenge for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) given its high turnover and the informal nature of KS. We examine KS in Portuguese NGOs by adopting the three levels of Schein's theory of organisational culture: artefacts, norms/values, and basic assumptions. We test the influence of the three variables we propose to be proxies of the three levels: internal communication, ethical climate, and altruism. This study's objective is to a) ascertain whether the different levels are correlated with each other, and b) to understand the effects of organisational variables on KS. We found evidence to sustain the correlation among the three levels showing that Schein's theory is supported in the NGO's. Our findings confirm that an ethical climate and altruism have a positive impact on KS. However, the analysis fails to support the influence of internal communication. Altogether, we conclude that organisational culture positively impacts KS at NGOs.

Knowledge management and innovation are important for organizational environments, acting as a strategy to maintain and improve competitiveness. This article evaluates, in an exploratory study, knowledge management in a medium-sized company. To this end, a systematic literature review and a qualitative interview with fourteen employees of a medium-sized company in the construction industry were conducted. The questionnaires were applied remotely to employees with leadership positions and direct labor from the company. The results showed that, although it was evident that the company follows management principles that tangent dimensions of the SECI Model, there is an opportunity for improvement in the internalization and combination dimensions.

Resumo A atual Gestão do Conhecimento é fundamentada no paradigma reducionista. No entanto, é premente a necessidade de avançar, seguindo os preceitos do paradigma holístico, sendo esta uma lacuna científica ainda não preenchida. Nesse sentido, esta pesquisa ajusta o gerenciamento do conhecimento à luz do paradigma holístico, de modo a elucidar o almejado pela Gestão do Conhecimento mediante esse padrão científico. Com essa fundamentação, têm-se por objetivo analisar a aderência do modelo de Fivaz e Pretorius à Gestão do Conhecimento holística, visando identificar se um modelo com essa envergadura foi atingido. A Análise de Conteúdo, de abordagem qualitativa, e a quantificação percentílica são os procedimentos metodológicos adotados para prover o exame do referido modelo. Por resultado, o modelo analisado adere-se parcialmente aos preceitos da Gestão do Conhecimento holística, permitindo inferir que a lacuna assinalada ainda permanece. A análisede outros modelos, seguindo os delineamentos metodológicos desenvolvidos nesta pesquisa, é uma oportunidade de futuras investigações.
