Major and trace elements redistribution in weathered claystones from the Corumbataí Formation, Paraná Sedimentary Basin, São Paulo, Brazil

Abstract: ABSTRACT:We studied 30 samples from 10 mining fronts of clayish rocks of the Corumbataí Formation, in the region of the Santa Gertrudes Ceramic Pole (São Paulo, Brazil), in order to evaluate the variation of rare earth elements (REE), mineralogy, weathering effects and provenance. The profiles show diagnostic geochemical signatures that are uniform across the Corumbataí Formation samples in the studied region and can be correlated from mine to mine, i.e.: 1) the constant MgO/K 2 O ratio and the variation of ot… Show more

“…Uplift to the northeast, and the Serra do Mar Uplift to the east (Figure 1, Menegazzo et al, 2016). Were performed sedimentological and geochemical (Godoy et al, 2017;Quintão et al, 2017) studies on the stratotype of the São Carlos Formation aiming to identify its provenance and make inferences regarding the tectono-sedimentary context in the easternmost region of the Bauru Basin.…”

“…No Estado de São Paulo, esta formação varia de espessura entre 60 e 130 metros, possuindo grande importância como matéria prima para fabricação de cerâmica (Zanardo et al, 2016). A mineralogia predominante nesta formação é ilita, quartzo, feldspatos, micas e subordinadamente carbonatos, montmorilonita e caulinita (Godoy et al, 2017).…”
