Show more

“…Damage to this system can lead to swallowing problems (dysphagia). It is usually observed through techniques such as Video Fluoroscopic Swallowing Exam (VFSE) 59 and ultrasound 42, 60, 61 . However, those methods either contain ionization radiation (VFSE) or have low contrast in differentiating food residues from tissue (ultrasound).…”

“…11 Therefore, evaluating the severity of swallowing dysfunction in patients with COPD is important for its early prevention and treatment. Rocha et al 12 quantitatively analyzed the tongue propulsion time and hyoid bone maximum displacement during pharyngeal swallowing in healthy adults, and qualitatively analyzed the specific process of pharyngeal swallowing. They indicated that ultrasound can not only serve as a tool for assessing swallowing disorders, but also provide feedback information during the treatment process.…”

“…Changes in the morphophysiology of the CNS may also contribute to an impairment in the modulation of the phases of deglutition. 17 In patients with DS there is an alteration in deglutition, primarily in the oral phase, that may be asymptomatic. Oral motor difficulties are present in up to 64% of patients and can continue until adulthood.…”
