Show more

“…The abundance and composition of the woody plant community markedly change depending on the different forest habitats (Hollunder et al., 2014). Furthermore, the study site is a small forest fragment characterized by the presence of high species richness (especially within the families Rubiaceae, Piperaceae, and Myrtaceae), and the relatively high number of endemic and endangered species (Luber et al., 2016; Torres‐Leite et al., 2018). The mean monthly precipitation is 172 mm and 30 mm in summer and winter respectively (averaged over 2009–2019, meteorological station of Alegre, ES, Brazil) and the annual precipitation is 1288 mm.…”

“…In Brazil, it includes 128 genera and 1,416 species, of which 707 are endemic (Flora and Funga do Brazil, 2018). Moreover, these species are locally aggregated at small spatial scales (Sakai & Wright, 2008; Mesquita‐Neto et al, 2015; Torres‐Leite et al, 2018, 2019). Therefore, Rubiaceae is an important model for better understanding coexistence patterns between species in highly diverse tropical systems.…”

“…These efforts resulted in the publication of several taxonomic and floristic studies for selected plant families in subsequent years (e.g. Luber et al 2016 , Pena and Alves-Araújo 2017 , Silva et al 2017 , Chagas et al 2017 , Souza et al 2017 , Araújo et al 2018 , Torres-Leite et al 2018 , Moreira et al 2020a , Moreira et al 2020b ). Despite that, the State includes multiple knowledge gaps and botanical data remain scattered ( Garbin et al 2017 ).…”
