“…exhibited variation from lower to higher elevation. The studied species, A. grandiflora, occurs exclusively in open areas of Cerrado (Magenta et al, 2010); it is subjected to typical Cerrado environmental conditions such as high solar radiation, low availability of nutrients in the soil like calcium and magnesium, and high aluminum levels, in addition to low water availability, mainly in the upper soil layers (Ratter et al, 1977). These conditions might influence the anatomy of plant species.…”

“…Among its representatives is Aldama La Llave, a South American genus, which includes 35 Brazilian species, of which 17 are endemic (Magenta et al, 2010). The representatives of this genus are morphologically very similar, leading to problems in taxonomical delimitations among the species (Schilling and Panero, 2011).…”

“…& Panero (=Viguiera arenaria Baker in Martius) and A. robusta (Gardner) E.E.Schill. & Panero (=Viguiera robusta Gardner in Hook) are herbs and subshrubs with a thickened underground stem and seasonal development (Magenta et al 2010). During favorable periods of development, these species emit shoots from the underground system and produce flowers.…”
