Guatteria (Annonaceae) do estado do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil

Abstract: RESUMO São apresentadas as espécies de Guatteria do estado do Rio de Janeiro. São consideradas 13 espécies: Guatteria burchellii, G. candolleana, G. elliptica, G. ferruginea, G. glabrescens, G. latifolia, G. mexiae, G. nigrescens, G. pohliana, G.… Show more

“…The southeastern Brazilian species were mainly investigated by Lobão for her thesis and in publications (Lobão & Mello-Silva 2007, Lobão et al 2010, Lobão & Lopes 2014. Scharf et al focused on species from the Guiana shield area (2005, 2006a, b, 2008) and made a contribution to the Flora of the Guianas (in prep.).…”

“…Note -Guatteria pohliana is characterized by small leaves, mostly not exceeding 10 cm in length, often glabrous on both sides. According to Lobão & Mello-Silva (2007) the floral buds are black, glabrous, with the sepals fully connate, all of which are also noteworthy features; the latter feature should serve to distinguish G. pohliana from small-leaved specimens of G. australis where the sepals are free in bud. In practice this will probably be difficult to verify.…”

“…However, material similar to Glaziou 12121 are all shrubs from Minas Gerais. Discrepancies in the data on Glaziou collections have been pointed out (e.g., Wurdack, 1970;Lobão & Mello-Silva, 2007;Groppo & Pirani, 2008) Shrub ca. 1 m tall.…”

“…Furthermore, the immature flowers (open bud) look very different from the mature ones, leading to frequent confusion in delimitation of species. Because of the problematic interpretation of these characters, the number of species could have been overestimated (Lobão & Mello-Silva 2007). Nevertheless, the two species described here are unique in their characteristics, and they both inhabit the Atlantic Forest of Brazil.…”
