Chemical diversity of essential oils from native populations of Eplingiella fruticosa

Abstract: The objective of this work was to analyze the content and the chemical diversity of the essential oil (EO) of 22 Eplingiella fruticosa plants collected in Sergipe, Brazil. EOs were obtained from dry leaves by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC/MS-FID. The mean EO contents ranged from 0.75 to 1.28%. The compounds found in greater amounts formed two clusters. The first cluster consisted of 15 plants and presented bicyclogermacrene (6.29-16.24%), spathulenol (7.59-15.23%), β-caryophyllene (5.77-12.97%), and car… Show more

“…In general, essential oils present significant yield, and their composition can vary depending on climatic and environmental factors, such as temperature, humidity, precipitation, soil, and time of collection. Additionally, the part of the plant used (leaves, bark, seeds or root), as well as the method of the extraction, may interfere with the composition of the essential oil of a given species [15,32,33].…”

“…The essential oils of E. fruticosa are characterized by the variability in their components (Silva et al, 2018). This chemical polymorphism results from diverse factors, including genetic and environmental effects that, in combination or independently, affect their composition and quantitative and qualitative properties.…”

“…An injection volume of 0.5 µL (5 mg.mL -1 ) was used, with a split ratio of 1:10. Programming of oven temperature began at 50°C (isotherm for 1.5 min), with an increase of 4 °C.min -1 at 200°C, followed by 10 °C.min -1 up to 250°C, finishing with an isotherm of 5 min at 250°C (Silva et al, 2018).…”

“…In addition, it is emphasized that several authors, such as Krycki et al (2016), Costa et al (2018), Fachinetto et al (2018), Tolomeotti et al (2018) and Silva et al (2018), have carried out studies involving native species of economic importance, such as the present study.…”
