The peace process with the FARC-EP has been recognized as pioneering for how it addresses gender issues. This was made possible by the action of feminist and women's movements. This article analyzes the principle achievements of those movements during the negotiation process and identifies the challenges they face for the materialization of women's rights. In doing so, we enter into dialogue with two theses from the literature about women and peace. The first argues that political pressure from movements is essential in order to increase women's participation in negotiation processes; the second argues that neither the incorporation of women in negotiations nor the inclusion of gender considerations in agreements is sufficient to guarantee their implementation. Analyzing the Colombian case, we conclude that, along with political pressure, the recognition of these movements as key for peacebuilding and their accumulated political force were vital for raising their demands. Furthermore, the government in office's position on peace and women's right has important impacts on the incorporation and implementation of gender provisions. Along with the government's political position, we identify other challenges: the delegitimization of women's demands by characterizing them as promoting 'gender ideology,' the instrumental and depoliticized application of a gender perspective, the exacerbation of violence, the predominance of liberal visions of peace in dialogue with the state, hierarchical relations within these movements, and a certain level of disarticulation of diverse feminist struggles in the peace scenarios.

This article examines the development of campaigns against “gender ideology” in Europe, leading to the emergence of a specific family of mobilizations that we call anti-gender campaigns. These campaigns, started in the mid-1990s as a Catholic project in reaction to the results of the UN conferences of Cairo and Bejing, but developed significantly in several European countries after crucial encounters with right-wing populism. While recognizing the importance of these crossovers, we contend the interpretation that mobilizations against “gender ideology” and right-wing populism are the two faces of the same coin, and we plead for a more complex understanding of the ways in which distinct—and sometimes competing—projects can converge in specific settings. We argue that research on the “Global Right Wing” should therefore disentangle the various components of this phenomenon, and locate them in concrete settings. We show that this research strategy allows us to better grasp the specificities of each project and the ways in which they interact. Opening our eyes on crucial developments in contemporary Europe, this strategy also prevents researchers from falling into the trap of a global and unqualified backlash against everything achieved in terms of gender and sexuality in the last decades.

Resumen: Esta investigación buscó describir e interpretar las vivencias de las personas que se auto reconocen como LGBT en la ciudad de Tunja (departamento de Boyacá, Colombia), frente a la garantía, el acceso y el ejercicio de sus derechos sexuales y reproductivos. La metodología fue de carácter cualitativo y como método de análisis e interpretación se utilizó la teoría fundamentada. Los datos fueron obtenidos por entrevistas semiestructuradas, que se analizaron a través de la codificación abierta y axial; se realizó comparación constante para la emergencia de cinco categorías conceptuales que describen por medio de tres momentos que organizan los datos obtenidos e identificados en el proceso de reconocimiento de los/las participantes como sujetos de derechos. Los tres momentos son denominados: 1) definición de si, 2) reconocimiento social y 3) reconocimiento Estatal. El reconocimiento del “Otr@” a partir de la diversidad es una necesidad imperante para la atención por parte del personal de enfermería, dado que permite cuidados desde las vivencias y experiencias de los sujetos cuidados y cuidadores. Este proceso también ayuda a tomar posiciones no discriminatorias que construyen relaciones de cuidado más comprometidas con los procesos salud-enfermedad desde enfoques diversos, comprensivos y pertinentes a las comunidades en general y al colectivo LGBT en particular.
