Background Ethics-based nursing practice can transform health care practices. As the biggest human capital in the health care system, nurses are obliged to follow ethical principles in this field. One of these ethical principles; is beneficence, which is considered the core of nursing care. This study aimed to investigate clarification of the principle of beneficence in nursing care and its related challenges. Methods This integrative review was conducted using the Whittemore & Knafl method in 5 stages, including problem identification, searching the literature, evaluating primary sources, analyzing data, and presenting the results. Databases like SID, Irandoc, Magiran, Google Scholar, Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus were searched using the keywords; “beneficence”, “ethic”, “nursing” and “care” in English and Persian in the time range of 2010 to 10 February, 2023. After applying inclusion criteria and assessing the articles using Bowling’s Quality Assessment Tool, finally, 16 papers were included from 984. Results After reviewing and evaluating the qualified articles, the findings were classified into four main categories: (1) nature, (2) applicability, (3) Relevant and influential factors, and (4) challenges related to the ethical principle of beneficence in nursing care. Conclusion Based on the results of this review it seems that paying attention to clarification the principle of beneficence in nursing care can provide positive outcomes for patients to benefit from this principle and finally, it leads to increasing the well-being and health of patients, reducing their mortality rate, increasing satisfaction and maintaining the respect and human dignity of patients.

Objetivo: identificar as percepções de estudantes de graduação em enfermagem e medicina acerca das competências de segurança do paciente no processo de ensino-aprendizagem. Método: trata-se de estudo qualitativo, exploratório-descritivo, realizado de setembro a novembro de 2019 com 24 estudantes de graduação em medicina e enfermagem, de uma universidade pública do Sul do Brasil. Os dados foram coletados por meio de um roteiro de entrevista semiestruturada e analisados pela análise textual discursiva. Resultados: as percepções acerca das competências de segurança do paciente relacionaram-se à cultura de segurança, trabalho em equipe, comunicação efetiva, gerenciamento de riscos, otimização de fatores ambientais e humanos, e conduta diante de eventos adversos. Considerações finais: os estudantes possuem percepções satisfatórias em relação às competências de segurança do paciente na sua formação, no entanto, demonstraram fragilidades quanto ao conhecimento e sua aplicação na prática, principalmente na ação diante da ocorrência de erros.

Patient safety culture assessment before and after safety huddle implementation

Objective: To identify whether safety huddle implementation enabled a change in patient safety culture. Method: Quasi-experimental research that assessed patient safety culture before and after safety huddle implementation. Results. The study revealed that 53.98% completed the two safety culture assessments, with 60.1% adherence from the nursing team, with a statistically significant difference in the second assessment regarding perception of patient safety and adverse events notified (p < 0.00). Regarding good practice indicators, a statistically significant difference (p < 0.00) was observed in item 43 and improvement in almost all dimensions in the second safety culture assessment. The huddles totaled 105 days, with 100% adherence from the nursing team. Regarding checklist items, all presented satisfactory responses (above 50%). Conclusion: Safety huddles proved to be an effective tool for communication between healthcare professionals and managers, demonstrating positive impacts on good practice indicators and most safety culture dimensions.
