Genotype by Environment Interaction in Green Cowpea Analyzed via Mixed Models

Abstract: -The restricted maximum likelihood/best linear unbiased prediction (REML/BLUP) mixed model method has been used to study the effects of genotype by environment interaction (G x E) in various crops including cowpea. This work aimed to analyze the G x E interaction via mixed models to identify cowpea genotypes that meet high adaptability, stability and productivity of pods and green grains when grown under Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte State conditions. Crop value and use were evaluated in two growing seasons, us… Show more

“…The significant differences between the sources of variation show the existence of differentiated behavior between genotypes, environments and genotypes in the face of environmental changes (Table 2). These results corroborate many studies evaluating bean genotypes in different regions of Brazil (Barili et al, 2015;Torres et al, 2016;Torres Filho et al, 2017).…”

“…The significant effect from the interaction between genotypes and locations showed the differentiated performance of the lines in relation to environmental changes, fact that corroborated several studies, which assessed common bean genotypes in different Brazilian regions (TORRES et al, 2016;TORRES FILHO et al, 2017).…”

“…Results of the analysis of variance demonstrated significant effects for genotypes and environments suggesting the presence of genetic variability between bean lines and edaphoclimatic differences between environments, in this order ( Table 1). The significance of genotypes x environments interaction proves that the lines presented distinguished performances regarding environmental changes (Torres Filho et al, 2017). With regard to plant breeding, it is essential, for the selection of superior phenotypes, to have previous knowledge of the contribution of each of the components of variance.…”
