Soil Chemical Attributes and Leaf Nutrients of 'Pacovan' Banana Under Two Cover Crops

Abstract: -Banana is one of the most consumed fruits in the world, which is grown in most tropical countries. The objective of this work was to evaluate the main attributes of soil fertility in a banana crop under two cover crops and two root development locations. The work was conducted in Curaçá, BA, Brazil, between October 2011 and May 2013, using a randomized block design in split plot with five repetitions. Two cover crops were assessed in the plots, the cover 1 consisting of Pueraria phaseoloides, and the cover 2 … Show more

“…It should be noted that phosphorus is an element that favours the development of root system in banana (FLORI;RESENDE, 2016). Results contrary to those of this study were reported by Santos et al (2014b), who analysing the mineral element content of banana "Pacovan" plants fertilised with biofertiliser.…”

“…This effect might be related to K having great mobility inside the plants (FLORI;RESENDE, 2016). Another contributing factor for the reduction of K in the roots might be the high levels of Na present in the biofertilisers (Table 2).…”

“…Similar results were obtained by Maluf et al (2015) and by Flori and Resende (2016). Maluf et al (2015) found in the coffee area, both at 0-0.1m and 0.1-0.2m soil layers, higher values of pH, organic matter, Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ and row saturation than in the transplant line, in the fertilizer strip.…”

Flori and Resende (2016) obtained, at 0-0.2m soil layer, higher levels of organic matter, P and Ca 2+ between rows in relation to the banana plantation row. According to these authors, these results were due to the lower nutrient absorption by the banana between rows, due to the smaller root volume at the site and the greater distance from the rhizome.…”

“…A banana é uma das frutas mais consumidas no mundo, sendo explorada na maioria dos países tropicais (Flori e Resende, 2016), pois é um alimento altamente energético com elevado conteúdo de carboidratos assimiláveis (Perin et al, 2009), além do mais, é uma espécie adaptada às condições de sub-bosque florestal, pelo fato de ser tolerante ao sombreamento (Santos et al, 2012).…”
