Simple Summary: The present review updates the current knowledge about the beneficial effects of ginger and its derivatives as feed supplements to poultry feed, particularly its positive effects on the body weight, carcass traits, egg production and quality, reproductive performance, blood parameters, egg and meat quality and microbiological aspects as well as the economic efficiency.Abstract: Poultry enterprises have sustained rapid development through the last three decennaries. For which reason, higher utilization of antibacterial, either as therapeutic or growth promoting agents, has been accepted. Owing to the concern of developing bacterial resistance among populations towards antibiotic generations, accumulation of antibacterial remaining's in chicken products and elevating shopper request for outcomes without antibacterial remaining's, looking for unconventional solutions that could exchange antibacterial without influencing productiveness or product characters. Using natural alternatives including ginger, garlic prebiotics, organic acids, plant extracts, etheric oils and immune stimulants have been applied to advance the performance, hold poultry productiveness, prevent and control the enteric pathogens and minimize the antibacterial utilization in the poultry production in recent years. The use of a single replacement or ideal assemblage of different choices besides good supervision and livestock welfare may play a basic role in maximizing benefits and preserving poultry productiveness. The object of this review was to support an outline of the recent knowledge on the use of the natural replacements (ginger and its derivatives) in poultry feed as Animals 2020, 10, 452 2 of 16 feed additives and their effects on poultry performance, egg and meat quality, health as well as the economic efficiency.

As doenças transmitidas por alimentos (DTA) são responsáveis por enfermidades e morte em todo o mundo. Dentre os principais micro-organismos patogênicos envolvidos, destaca-se a Salmonella Enteretidis e Listeria monocytogenes. Os compostos naturais como óleo, extratos de plantas e peptídeos de origem microbiana podem apresentar atividade antimicrobiana contra bactérias, fungos e vírus. Neste sentido, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a atividade antimicrobiana bem como a concentração inibitória mínima (CIM) do óleo essencial de gengibre (OG) e do peptídeo produzido pelo Lactococcus lactis (PP) contra S. Enteretidis e L. m onocytogenes. Para isto, utilizou-se o método de difusão em disco para avaliar a atividade antimicrobiana bem como a concentração inibitória mínima (CIM) do OG e PP contra S. Enteretidis e L. monocytogenes. Os tamanhos dos halos de inibição (mm) foram submetidos a análise de variância (ANOVA) e teste de Tukey, com nível de 95% de confiabilidade. O OG apresentou atividade antimicrobiana contra S. Enteretidis e L. monocytogenes, produzindo halos de inibição de 8,75 e 18,62 mm, respectivamente. O PP apresentou atividade antimicrobiana somente para L. monocytogenes, produziu halo de inibição de 21,5 mm. Não houve diferença significativa (p <0,05) entre os tamanhos de halos produzidos pela atividade antimicrobiana do OG e do PP contra L. monocytogenes. A CIM do OG foi de 250 e 0,48 µL.mL-1 contra S. Enteretidis e L. monocytogenes, respectivamente. Já a CIM do PP foi de 0,48 µL.mL-1 contra L. monocytogenes. O OG e o PP apresentaram ação antimicrobiana contra micro-organismos patogênicos e podem ser uma alternativa interessante na conservação de alimentos. Palavras-chave: Compostos naturais. Inibição. The search for natural anti-microbials present in plants has been the target of intense scientific studies over the last years. The objective of this study was to assess the in-vitro antibacterial potential and in silico toxicology of the essential oil of Cinnamomum cassia (Chinese cinnamon) against E. coli and S. aureus strains. The essential oil was initially solubilized in tween 80 and dimethyl sulphoxide acid (DMSO). The antibacterial action was assessed by means of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) determined from the microdilution in double-concentrated brain heart infusion broth (BHI) and the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) which was determined by the depletion in nutrient agar (NA) technique with aliquots of 10µL of the MIC, MIC × 2 and MIC × 4. The MIC and the MBC presented satisfactory and varied results; the E. coli LPM 4459, LPM 1243, LPM 4010 and LPM 4896 strains, had a MIC of 256 µg/mL and MBC of 512 µg/mL respectively. As for the E. coli LPM 2810 and S. aureus LPM 55 strains, they showed a MIC of 128 µg/mL and MBC of 256 µg/mL. In the in silico toxicological analysis, a toxic potential was observed only in the p-Cymene and 3-Carene fractions. However, in the p-Mentha-1,4(8)-dien fraction there was no evidence of toxicity. Therefore, the essential oil of Cinnamomum cassia has satisfactory anti-bacterial activity, in addition to having a low theoretical oral toxicity when compared to other compounds commonly used in the therapeutics of bacterial infections.
