This article delves into the concept of valorisation of space, a prominent notion in Marxist geographical literature in Brazil. We critically examine this concept—stemming from a theoretical approach introduced in the 1980s during the critical renewal of Brazilian geography—by juxtaposing it with contributions from the Marxist value‐form tradition. This comparison reveals certain operational limits in the concept of valorisation of space. Nevertheless, these limitations can be overcome by more precisely defining it as a subset of practices within the broader context of space production: it can be conceptualised as a specific type of space production, occurring when space itself becomes the subject of valorisation. Furthermore, we explore the potentialities of the concept, showcasing its operationalisation through concrete examples of dynamics within the Brazilian territory.

The trauma that resulted from the construction of large hydroelectric dams in the Amazon is marked by major social and environmental restructuring, plunder, and impacts, on Indigenous Lands, Conservation Units, and residents on the outskirts of cities or through the country roads. In general, the effects caused by the Belo Monte HPP gain prominence and production, in which one of them composes the objective of this article: to analyze the impacts on the fishing territory. Having as methodological path the bibliographic review, field, and relative work with the fishermen of the Fishing Colony Z-57. It appears that the installation of the plant ended up deleteriously altering the systemic and cultural relations, under which the fishing territory is expressed. Compromising it, translating into low fishing stocks in the communities; a decrease of up to 70% in fisheries production and, consequently, an increase in pain and economic costs for carrying out the activity. It was evident that the legal frameworks and the licensing instruments, all the judicialization resulting from these infrastructure projects, and the struggle imposed on their installation, were not capable of safeguarding the interests of society - fishermen, specifically - in the face of the despoliation effect of the construction of the hydroelectric dam on the fishing territory.

Simulação numérica e otimização da eficiência hidráulica e da potência mecânica da turbina de Arquimedes

RESUMOO propósito deste trabalho foi desenvolver uma metodologia para otimização da eficiência hidráulica e da potência mecânica da turbina de Arquimedes. Para isso, utilizou-se dinâmica de fluidos computacional juntamente com modelos analíticos e empíricos para se calcular os parâmetros de interesse da turbina. Um algoritmo computacional foi desenvolvido através da linguagem Python que, por sua vez, executa os softwares SALOME, OpenFOAM e o método BOBYQA, o qual consiste em aproximações iterativas da função objetivo por meio de curvas quadráticas. As equações analíticas e empíricas empregadas foram derivadas de modelos existentes na literatura e aplicadas na determinação do vazamento pelas frestas entre as pás móveis e a calha fixa da turbina. A simulação numérica desse tipo de vazamento exige grande refinamento localizado, devido à alta razão entre o diâmetro das pás e a largura da fresta. Assim, durante as simulações numéricas as frestas foram desconsideradas do domínio computacional e, para corrigir as soluções, subtraiu-se o vazamento pré-estimado da vazão total da turbina. Primeiramente, foram validados os resultados referentes ao vazamento por frestas, os quais apresentaram boa concordância com dados da literatura. Um estudo de caso permitiu ajustar as curvas desse vazamento em função do diâmetro da turbina de Arquimedes. Concluiu-se que a perda de eficiência devido a esse efeito foi mais significativa em turbinas com menores diâmetros e com maiores inclinações. As potências mecânicas e as eficiências hidráulicas calculadas nas simulações numéricas da turbina de Arquimedes foram próximas de dados numéricos e experimentais existentes na literatura. Observou-se que a perda de potência por efeitos viscosos aumentou em altas rotações. Além disso, o aumento da rotação também reduziu o preenchimento da turbina, causando refluxos na descarga e perda de eficiência. Por outro lado, baixas rotações elevaram o preenchimento e causaram perdas por sobrepreenchimento. As otimizações com uma variável necessitaram de até sete iterações para determinar pontos ótimos e as multiparamétricas, até quatorze iterações. A maior eficiência hidráulica determinada foi de 88,2%. Observou-se também que as maiores eficiências hidráulicas ocorreram em níveis de preenchimento próximos a 40% na entrada do parafuso. Em tais condições, os vazamentos por sobrepreenchimento foram eliminados ou reduzidos, o que contribuiu para o aumento da eficiência da turbina de Arquimedes.
