RESUMO Objetivo Analisar o desempenho de escolares em uma bateria de triagem do processamento auditivo e comparar com um questionário de autopercepção. Além disso, comparar as respostas das crianças com questionário respondido pelos pais. Métodos Participaram 67 escolares com média de idade de 9,58 anos (±1,06), divididos em Grupo I (GI), composto por 40 crianças com desenvolvimento normal e bom desempenho escolar (23 meninas), e Grupo II (GII), composto por 27 crianças com dificuldades escolares (12 meninas). Foram realizados meatoscopia, imitanciometria, avaliação simplificada do processamento auditivo (ASPA) e questionário baseado no Scale of Auditory Behaviors. Resultados No total, 2 crianças do GI (5%) e 14 do GII (51,9%) tiveram desempenho alterado na ASPA. A tarefa de ordenação temporal para sons verbais demonstrou desempenho estatisticamente inferior do GII, em relação ao GI (p=0,001). No questionário, 14 crianças (35%) do GI e 23 (85,2%) do GII foram identificadas como risco para o TPAC (p<0,001). Houve correlação positiva de grau moderado entre desempenho na ASPA e o questionário (p<0,05). Na comparação das respostas das crianças e dos pais, considerando cada grupo separadamente, não houve diferença para o GI (p=0,894) e GII (p=0,239) e na amostra completa (p=0,363). Conclusão Ambos os instrumentos foram capazes de diferenciar os grupos estudados e identificar escolares que necessitam de encaminhamento para realizar o diagnóstico. A partir da análise de correlação, concluiu-se que a ASPA e o questionário devem ser utilizados de forma complementar, independentemente de serem aplicados com a criança ou os pais.

Introduction:Neuropsychomotor development and auditory abilities, influenced by biological and environmental factors, are directly related to school performance. In this way, a screening test in school environment allows the prior identification of change in development, reducing the losses in child life.Objective: To characterize the relationship between neuropsychomotor development and auditory processing skills in preschool children.Methods: 108 preschool children from three public institutions with ages between four years and one month to five years and eleven months, of both sexes were screened. It was performed the screening of Central Auditory Processing (CAP) through the simplified evaluation of auditory processing and the neurodevelopment using the Developmental Screening Test II Denver. The data were analyzed by chi-square tests and bivariate correlation with Pearson coefficient, adopting a significance level of 5% and alpha of 0.1. Results:The screening of the CAP, 100% of the subjects showed normal responses in the test detection, 81.5% in sound localization, 49% in the test of non-verbal sequential memory and 58.3% in the test of verbal sequential memory. In the neuropsychomotor development screening, the frequency of appropriate responses to the chronological age was significant in all areas, being 86.1% (93) in personal social area, 92.5% (100) in the adaptive fine motor, 87 % (94) in language and 92.5% (100) in gross motor. It was found a significant relationship only between the language alterations and proofs of sequential memory (p <0.05). Conclusion:It was found that the group studied was relationship between the language alterations and alterations in the temporal ordering skills of the central auditory processing.

Purpose To assess the hearing abilities of temporal ordering, temporal resolution and sound localization before and after the fitting of a hearing aid (HA) in individuals with unilateral hearing loss (UHL). Methods There were evaluated 22 subjects, aged 18 to 60 years, diagnosed with sensorineural or mixed UHL, from mild to severe degrees. The study was divided into two stages: the pre and post-adaptation of HA. In both phases, subjects performed an interview, application of Questionnaire for Disabilities Associated with Impaired Auditory Localization, auditory processing screening protocol (APSP) and Random Gap Detection Test (RGDT). Results This study found no statistically significant difference in sound localization and memory evaluations for verbal sounds in sequence, in RGDT and Questionnaire for Disabilities Associated with Impaired Auditory Localization. Conclusion With the effective use of hearing aids, individuals with UHL showed improvement in the auditory abilities of sound localization, ordering and temporal resolution.
