Show more

“…In the ultrasound-assisted process, the phenomenon called cavitation occurs, due to the formation of low frequency ultrasonic waves (above 20 kHz), which propagate in a liquid medium, creating something called microbubble shock. These shocks increase or decrease their size, generating compression and expansion until the bubbles implode near the solid, promoting the rupture of the vegetable cell wall and aiding in the extraction of the intracellular material (Zheng & Sun, 2005;Tao & Sun, 2013;Ferreira et al, 2014;Chemat et al, 2017).…”

“…Moreover, ultrasound-assisted extraction is an extraction process facilitated by the behavior of mechanical waves under high pressures and temperatures [49]. This technology can be completed quickly and with low consumption of organic solvents, which is extremely advantageous from a sustainable viewpoint [50].…”

“…Furthermore, the extraction of phenolic compounds from propolis (Cao et al, 2017), Myrica rubra leaves (Du et al, 2011) (Murador et al, 2019). The cavitation phenomenon in the extraction process induces the generation of microbubbles, causing precise points of high pressure and temperature, providing the vegetal cells to rupture, broke of solid particles, and consequently, the extraction of target chemical compounds (Ferreira et al, 2014(Ferreira et al, , 2020. Furthermore, using a multivariate approach for the experimental design, such as the full factorial screening, allows the evaluation of the extraction parameters individually and their interactions using a minimum number of experiments (Narenderan et al, 2019).…”
