Sponge Haliclona Sp is a member of the phylum porifera class Demospongia which is found living in the waters of the spermonde coral reefs of South Sulawesi. Its interaction with various microorganisms that live in the waters causes the formation of various kinds of active compounds and biological activities that are important in the world of health. The purpose of this study was to extract and fractionate protein from the Haliclona Sp sponge from Spermonde waters through confirmation using ammonium sulfate at various antioxidant levels, and to determine the content and activity of the protein in each fraction. The results showed that the protein content and antioxidant activity (IC50) of each fraction were, among others, in fraction 1 (0-30%) of 0.143 mg/L and 78.11 mg/L, fraction 2 (31-50%) 0.045 mg/L and 153.55 mg/L, fraction 3 (51â€“70%) of 0.020 and 161.12 mg/L, and fraction 4 (71â€“90%) of 0.112 and 104.71 mg/L, while crude protein of 0.277 mg/L and 115.22 mg/L. Ascorbic acid as a positive antioxidant control in this study resulted in an antioxidant activity of 2.74 mg/L.

Brazilian diplomacy has historically used the environmental agenda as a soft‐power tool, particularly regarding climate change, but this situation has drastically changed under Jair Bolsonaro's administration. Imitating other far‐right populists and their antienvironmental rhetoric, especially Donald Trump's, Bolsonaro attempted to use the topic to inflame his domestic supporters against international players. On the one hand, this strategy weakened Brazilian influence in bilateral and multilateral forums; on the other, dismantling environmental policies and governance structures had substantial consequences, especially in deforestation rates and attacks on traditional communities. This article analyzes the Bolsonaro administration's stand on the environment and climate issues and the repercussions of its policies and rhetoric in Brazil's domestic and foreign scenarios. We conclude that changes in the international context, especially after Trump's electoral defeat in the United States, led to a softening of Bolsonaro's international environmental and climate discourse, with no substantial policy changes internally. Although climate denialism is a centerpiece of the discourse of far‐right populists, this empirical analysis indicates that, in the case of Brazil, this narrative did not bring significant results to Bolsonaro in terms of support or international relevance.

“…In this paper, we review the legal mechanisms enabling conservation on private lands in Brazil and assess these lands' potential to contribute to the conservation of the country's major ecological regions. Brazil is a good case study because it is a megadiversity country and has some of the most modern and inclusive environmental legislation globally, despite some recent setbacks (Abranches, 2020; Rylands & Brandon, 2005). We organized this review into four sections: (a) a summary of the national legislation that enables private land conservation; (b) an analysis of the potential contribution of private lands to the conservation of the country's major ecological regions; (c) the main challenges and prospects drawn from the Brazilian experience in establishing privately protected areas to date, and (d) general policy recommendations on how countries can integrate privately protected areas into their national protected area systems.…”

Private conservation lands are essential for protecting biodiversity, but few national‐level studies have assessed their coverage and the legal frameworks that support them. Here, we review the legal mechanisms enabling conservation on private lands in Brazil and evaluate these lands' potential to reinforce the national protected area system. We found that conserving native vegetation on private lands is the most important mechanism to protect biodiversity in five out of the six Brazilian biomes. Because Brazil has a law that mandates landowners to set aside conservation areas, remnants of native vegetation were protected rather than converted to other land uses in areas of old economic frontiers. These remnants can be the cornerstones of effective regional conservation systems. Still, upgrading these remnants to privately protected areas and integrating these privately protected areas into the national protected area system remains a challenge. We suggest that the Brazilian experience provides important lessons on how other countries can design innovative policies to recognize and expand private land conservation.
