Cross-cultural adaptation of the "Australian National University Alzheimer's Disease Risk Index" for the Brazilian population

Abstract: Alzheimer's disease (AD) represents a major public health problem and it is therefore crucial that modifiable risk factors be known prior to onset of dementia in late-life. The "Australian National University - Alzheimer's Disease Risk Index" (ANU-ADRI) is one of the potential tools for primary prevention of the disease.ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to devise an adapted version of the ANU-ADRI for use in Brazil.MethodsThe instrument was translated from its original language of English into Portuguese and … Show more

“…Andrews et al (2017) found that the ANU-ADRI score in older adults in Australia was 9.4 (5.9). Borges et al (2017) found that the total score in adults in Portugal was 6.3 (13.8). Park et al ( 2019) reported that the baseline ANU-ADRI risk score for the active control group was 17.6 (7.7) and the protective factor score was −8.3 (3.2).…”

“…Since the correlation coefficient is higher than 0.70, the scale is considered reliable (Karakoç & Dönmez, 2014). The Portuguese ANU‐ADRI, whose conceptual validity was confirmed by expert opinions, was found to be reliable according to the intra‐class correlation coefficient (ICC) (0.95) (Borges et al., 2017). To confirm the extent to which the Australian ANU‐ADRI can predict the risk of AD in older adults, comparison was made with three dementia risk indices developed for middle‐aged groups.…”

“…Alguns estudos não informaram de forma objetiva o total da amostra, outros, por serem somente metodológicos, não se aplicava uma amostra. O estudo com maior quantidade amostral brasileira, contou com 5.970 participantes(DAMÁSIO et al, 2016) e o menor, com 10 participantes(BORGES et al, 2017). As discussões sobre o tamanho adequado de uma amostra são inúmeras e muito relevantes para o campo científico.…”
