Aumento da carga de dengue no Brasil e unidades federadas, 2000 e 2015: análise do Global Burden of Disease Study 2015

Abstract: ABSTRACT:Objective: To describe the main metrics on dengue generated by Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study 2015, for Brazil and its 27 federated units, in the years 2000 and 2015. Methods: The metrics described were: incidence and mortality rates by dengue, standardized by age, years of life lost (YLL), years lived with disability (YLD), and disability-adjusted life years (DALY) (in absolute frequency and age-standardized rates). The estimated metrics were presented with uncertainty intervals (UI 95%) for th… Show more

“…In the period between 1990 and 2016, there was an increase in the incidence and consequent increase of dengue burden and the increase in the Disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs).Dengue represented the third highest proportion of DALY in the period and the main cause among NTDs in 2016, with the highest absolute number of new cases in Brazil [27]. DALY increased more than double in all Brazilian states in the period from 2000 to 2015 [28]. The dengue lethality rate was relatively low [25,28].…”

“…DALY increased more than double in all Brazilian states in the period from 2000 to 2015 [28]. The dengue lethality rate was relatively low [25,28]. It should be borne in mind that dengue contributes to the loss of healthy life years due to its high incidence, affects all age groups and causes disability during symptomatic infection [28].…”

“…Dengue, chikungunya and Zika are among the most important mosquito-transmitted viruses worldwide. Their global burden of these diseases has increased rapidly in the last decades [ 1 , 2 ]. An estimated 390–500 million cases of dengue occur every year [ 1 , 3 ].…”

“…Dengue remains an important public health problem in Brazil . In northeastern Brazil, the state of Ceará is characterised by the recurrent occurrence of epidemics since 1986 with an incidence of over 1000 cases/100 000 inhabitants and high mortality , isolation of the four dengue serotypes and cocirculation of the Chikungunya and Zika viruses since 2015 .…”
