Microstructure and Properties of Duplex Ni-P-TiO2/Ni-P Nanocomposite Coatings

Abstract: Duplex NiP -TiO 2 /Ni-P coatings were electrodeposited onto brass substrates. High phosphorus NiP coatings were plated as the inner layer to improve the corrosion resistance, while low phosphorus sol-enhanced NiP -TiO 2 coatings were deposited on the top to strengthen the mechanical property. The microstructure, morphology, mechanical property and corrosion resistance of coatings were investigated systematically. The results show that duplex coatings exhibit both excellent mechanical property and good corrosio… Show more

“…Also, the micro-hardness is based on the content of the incorporated nanoparticles. So, a mild increase in the micro-hardness by the MMT incorporation may be related to its content in the matrix [49,54].…”

“…The electrodes were prepared in an electrolytic cell as follows: the tin plate (40 mm × 40 mm) was used as the anode and the pretreated titanium substrate (20 mm × 30 mm × 0.1 mm) was used as the cathode. TiO 2 sol was prepared following the procedures in previous work [24][25][26]. A certain amount (5, 10, 15 mL/L) of as-prepared TiO 2 sol was slowly dropped into the stirring electrolytes.…”

“…Nanoparticles such as SiC [16], ZrO 2 [17], TN [18], WC [19], TiO 2 [20][21][22], and Al 2 O 3 [23] have recently been utilized as the second reinforcing phase for composite electrodeposition. In traditional composite electrodeposition techniques, nanometer-sized inert particles are added to the electrolytes to create films.…”
