Waste from the processing of hardwood and coniferous wood generated in the timber industries is difficult to dispose of and can cause considerable environmental impacts, such as soil and groundwater contamination. In this context, composites with varying concentrations of polypropylene, maleated polypropylene, and particulate Eucalyptus and Pinus waste were produced in a twin screw extruder and injection molded as test bodies for tensile and flexural tests. The morphology of the composites was investigated via scanning electron microscopy. The thermal properties were identified through differential scanning calorimetry. The tensile and flexural results for the two waste formulations indicated that the addition of vegetable fillers increased the modulus of elasticity and bending, and the compatibilizer provided increased resistance to stress and maximum deflection. The scanning electron micrographs illustrated the wetting of the cellulosic charge by the thermoplastic polymer with the compatibilizer, which corroborated the possible occurrence of an esterification reaction and hydrogen bonding interactions in the matrix-particle interface. The incorporation of waste in the composite resulted in the reduction of the degree of crystallinity of polypropylene, regardless of the use of the compatibilizer. This was explained by the barrier capacity of the charge, which prevented the growth of the crystals.

Pollution from plastic materials has become a severe problem all around the world. Plastics, due to their long lasting properties are utilized majorly in almost every application from packaging, electrical appliances, vehicle parts etc. the major concern related to plastics are that they are non-degradable and hence are harmful for environment. Several researches have been done in utilizing plastic material in addition with some other materials to form a composite material which has better properties than pure substances. Plastics with glass fibres are one such of composition where the new material formed can be used for several day to day applications. Hence the present work focuses on, manufacturing of a composite material from recycled glass fibres and recycled polypropylene co-polymers (PPCP) in varying ratios. A total of six specimens are made and results for Heat deflection temperature (HDT) 70:30 has the best results compared to other compositions. Results are also calculated for shear strength for the same composition of specimen, which shows better results compared to wood material (plywood). This experiment provides a solution for utilizing the waste plastic material found in waste lands and scrapyards which continuously pollute the environment.

The aim of this paper is to highlight recent developments in the processing of waste carbon fibre for thermoplastic composites. Initially, injection moulding and nonwoven technologies have been used to integrate waste carbon fibres into fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composites. Recently, tape and hybrid yarn spinning technologies have been developed to produce tape and hybrid yarn structures from waste carbon fibre, which are then used to manufacture recycled carbon fibre-reinforced thermoplastics with much higher efficiency. The hybrid yarn spinning technologies enable the development of various fibrous structures with higher fibre orientation, compactness and fibre volume fraction. Therefore, thermoplastic composites manufactured from hybrid yarns possess a good potential for use in load-bearing structural applications. In this paper, a comprehensive review on novel and existing technologies employed for the processing of waste carbon fibre in addition to different quality aspects of waste carbon fibre is presented.
