Deficit Irrigation of Subsurface Drip-Irrigated Grape Tomato

Abstract: Agriculture is one of the segments that most uses water and developments have been made to save irrigation water. Deficit irrigation is a technique that can contribute to production and water saving in agriculture. This study aimed to evaluate the viability of deficit irrigation in tomato production irrigated by subsurface drip in a greenhouse and estimate water saving. The experiment was conducted at the CCA/UFSCar, in Araras, São Paulo, Brazil, with grape tomato cultivation. It consisted of three treatments,… Show more

“…The Trifluralin (α,α,α-trifluoro-2−6-dinitro−NN-dipropylp-toluidine), TFN, is an herbicide of the chemical group Dinitroaniline, widely used in agriculture since 1960 (Coleman et al, 2020;Epp et al, 2018). This pre-emergent herbicide is efficiently used to control grasses and some smallseeded dicotyledonous species (Coleman et al, 2020;Li et al, 2021) and is also capable of minimizing root intrusion in subsurface drippers (Lima, 2011;Mendonça et al, 2020). At a global scale, it is estimated that around 4,400 tons of TFN are currently used per year, mainly for the cultivation of cotton, alfalfa, and soybeans (Maggi et al, 2019).…”

“…The annual precipitation of Xinjiang is 147 mm, and the annual average evaporation is as high as 1500-2300 mm [2,3]. Water resources in this area are exceedingly scarce, and the sustainable development of agriculture in this area depends on irrigation [4,5]. Therefore, appropriate irrigation strategies should be adopted to save irrigation water, maintain relative yield and improve water use efficiency [6,7], and it is urgent to realize the effective use of water resources [8].…”
