Thermal Efficiency of Different Coverage Materials in Reduced Models of Animal Husbandry Facilities: A Case Study

Abstract: This study aimed to assess different combinations of coverage materials in reduced models of animal husbandry facilities based on thermal comfort indices. It was conducted in an experimental area of the Research Center in Ambience located in São Paulo State, Brazil (22°42′30″ S and 47°38′00″ W). The performance of ceramic and fiber-cement (white painted) tiles was assessed associated with two types of polypropylene commercial linings (lining A and B) installed below the roof, and a thermo-reflective screen (li… Show more

“…Silva et al (2015) evaluating the thermal performance of roofs (ceramic tile, aluminum tile and asphalt fiber) in reduced models (1:10) directed to poultry houses, found a mean RTL of 453.09, 459.39 and 457.86 W.m -2 for ceramic tile, aluminum tile and asphalt vegetal fiber tile, respectively, that is, an average variation of only 6.3 W.m -2 . Castro et al (2017) evaluating the use of different cover combinations (ceramic tiles and white painted fiber cement, associated with polypropylene linings and thermoreflective fabric) in reduced models of animal production facilities based on thermal comfort indexes. They were verified that the maximum radiation's thermal loud occurred near at 2 pm (515.36 to 573.36 W.m -2 ), being the best treatment formed by fiber-cement tile with specific polypropylene lining under cover.…”

“…However, studies on the use of this technology in agricultural facilities are scarce. Among the evaluations performed for conventional and non-conventional roofing materials, the use of reduced models of rural facilities has been cited in the studies of Souza et al (2018), Castro et al (2017), Farias et al (2017), and Silva et al (2015. Castro et al (2017), Dalcin et al (2016), Pérez et al (2015), Marchezan et al (2014), Neto & Nääs (2014, Rosselle et al (2014), and Melo et al (2013) evaluated the thermal comfort of an environment using the black globe humidity index (BGHI = Tbg + 0.36.Tdp + 41.5, in which Tbg and Tdp denote the black globe and the dew point temperatures (°C), respectively) and the radiation heat load index (RHL =  .…”

“…From the analysis of various factors, it can be seen that the implementation of ecological recycling aquaculture model is the inevitable choice for the sustainable development of animal husbandry in China [3]. The construction of modern ecological recycling aquaculture model is a systematic project, involving many main aspects of animal husbandry, affected by many factors [4]. Aquaculture is a special industry, its location is often affected by natural resources and other factors [5].…”
