Due to the increase in water and energy tariffs, in addition to the limited amount of these resources, the automation of irrigation can help farmers to increase the production of agricultural crops. Therefore, the objective of this research was to evaluate different irrigation managements between manual and automatic in the production of arugula in a protected environment, in order to determine the productive potential in the cultivation of vegetables. The experiment was conducted in randomized blocks with four irrigation management strategies, divided into automatic and manual managements: automatic irrigation management via soil (IAS); automatic irrigation management via climate (IAC); manual irrigation management via soil (IMS) and manual irrigation management via climate (IMC). The treatments were applied to the arugula (Eruca Sativa L.) crop during two production cycles, and their effect on biophysical aspects of plants and irrigation water productivity was evaluated. For the fresh mass variable, the IAC (17.75 g plant -1 ), IAS (12.38 g plant -1 ), and IMC (8.63 g plant -1 ) treatments, in the 1 st cycle, were statistically similar to each other, whereas in the 2 nd cycle, only the IAC (16.29 g plant -1 ) and IAS (19.80 g plant -1 ) treatments had this statistical similarity. Automatic managements can be recommended based on this research, however, considering the financial difficulties of the small farmer, IMC may be a desirable option in unfavorable economic conditions.

As ferramentas de agricultura de precisão permitem interpretação das causas de variações da fertilidade do solo e, assim, realizar intervenções de maneira localizada por meio da aplicação de insumos em taxa variável. Objetivou-se analisar a dependência espacial da fertilidade do solo e sua correlação com a produtividade da soja Glycine max (L) em Dourados - MS. Foi realizado o mapeamento com GPS de navegação global demarcando a área de 50 hectares, para posterior geração da malha de amostragem de solo e de produtividade. A partir da distribuição dos pontos, foi realizada a coleta do solo na camada de 0,00-0,20 m a cada 1 hectare, sendo as amostras identificadas e submetidas às análises químicas em laboratório, nas quais foram avaliados: CTC, H+Al, Fósforo, Potássio, Cálcio, Magnésio, pH, V%, e Matéria Orgânica. Além de determinada a produtividade da cultura. Os dados foram submetidos à estatística descritiva, geoestatistica e correlação de Pearson. Todos os atributos químicos do solo encontraram-se em níveis adequados para produção da soja. Quanto à dependência espacial dos atributos químicos do solo e produtividade da soja, estes apresentaram forte dependência espacial, exceto Matéria Orgânica cuja dependência foi moderada. O semivariograma constatou que as variáveis pH e Matéria Orgânica foram ajustadas ao modelo esférico, Fósforo e H+Al ao modelo exponencial e os demais ao modelo gaussiano. Com base nos coeficientes de correlação entre produtividade de soja e atributos químicos do solo foi constatado significância positiva para Fósforo (0,30) e significância negativa para CTC (-0,30) e H+Al (-0,29).

With the advent of precision agriculture, it was possible to integrate several technologies to develop the variable rate application (VRA). The use of VRA allows savings in the use of herbicides, better weed control, lower environmental impact and, indirectly, increased crop productivity. There are VRA techniques based on maps and sensors for herbicide application in preemergence (PRE) and postemergence (POST). The adoption of the type of system will depend on the investment capacity of the producer, skilled workforce available, and the modality of application. Although it still has some limitations, VRA has been widespread and has been occupying more and more space in chemical management, the tendency in the medium- and long term is that there is a gradual replacement of the conventional method of application. Given the benefits provided by VRA along with the engagement of companies and researchers, there will be constant evolution and improvement of this technology, cheapening the costs of implementation and providing its adoption by an increasing number of producers. Thus, the objective of this chapter was to address an overview of the use of herbicides in VRA for weed management in PRE and POST.
