“…The biting cycles observed at Aseli Kamp and Apoma Tapoe resemble those observed in Colombia by Elliott (1972) and in Amazonas, Brazil, by Charlwood & Hayes (1978) in having a single main peak near midnight, but the big secondary peaks at dawn and dusk observed in Matto Grosso, Brazil, by Charlwood & Wilkes (1979) and the frequent day biting observed by Pajot et al (1977) in French Guyana, were not seen in Suriname. Since the maroons in the Suriname rain forest are usually inside their houses for the night by 21.00 h most biting has to be done indoors and anything that reduces entry and biting will reduce malaria transmission.…”

“…In this case, the owner and his wife helped in the collections. Since A. darlingi in this area does not demonstrate the crepuscular biting activity found in the Aripuana population (Charlwood & Hayes, 1978), collections, in 1979, were made from sunset (18.00 h) to 23.30 h, with no collections in the morning. Thus in both study areas, females for dissection were obtained from catches designed to sample most of the biting population even though no all-night catches were made.…”

“…Em seu território no Brasil é encontrado picando durante todo o ano, rareando um pouco no final da estação seca e abundando no final da chuvosa, mais propriamente na transição entre as épocas de maiores e menores pluviosi¬ dades (Charlwood & Hayes, 1978;Charlwood, 1980;Klein & Lima, 1990). Aparentemente, as chuvas torrenciais, frequentes durante a estação chuvosa, produzem elevada mortalidade dentre as larvas e pupas de An.…”
