Entomopatógenos Associados a Lagartas De Bombyx Mori L. (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae) No Estado Do Paraná

Abstract: RESUMO O Estado do Paraná é o maior produtor sericícola brasileiro. Show more

“…Caterpillar infections are not uncommon during the period when a high number of insects is being managed in a farm, and preventive or curative measures are necessary to avoid the losses resulting from diseases. The existence of products that reduce infection levels is necessary to avoid an extreme situation of disposal of the entire batch of caterpillars (Potrich et al, 2007). In addition to being effective, such products must be safe, with minimal side effects for insects in production, for humans, and the environment.…”

“…Sericulture in Brazil is an activity developed mainly by families on small rural properties, contributing to improving workers' income and reducing rural exodus (Meng et al, 2017). This configures a low technological level for the breeding environment of silkworm, Bombyx mori L. (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae), and among the problems associated with sericulture that directly affect the quality of the threads, the diseases caused by entomopathogenic viruses, bacteria, and fungi stand out (Potrich et al, 2007; Santos et al, 2010; Margatho et al, 2012). The high susceptibility of silkworm caterpillars to these microorganisms is due to the domestication process that the silkworm has gone through (Rajagopal et al, 2014).…”

“…Infrastructure and compliance with silkworm rearing standards (SOPs) are important points in silkworm rearing. Silkworm diseases are the most significant factor that impacts cocoon production [ 21 , 80 , 81 ].…”
