Show more

“…In its native habitat, FAW is attacked by several natural enemies including parasitoids and entomopathogenic fungi [ 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 ] which target different development stages [ 21 , 26 , 27 , 28 ] causing significant mortality on its population [ 29 , 30 , 31 ]. Around 17 different parasitoid species of FAW are known in its native range [ 29 ].…”

“…strains caused 100% mortality of second-instar FAW larvae soaked in aqueous conidial suspensions. Thomazoni et al 14 documented that not one of 49 Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuillemin strains caused mortality >44.9% on third-instar larvae immersed in conidial suspensions for 10 s, and García et al 15 found that only three of 97 strains, belonging to three species, provided relevant infectivity (69-97%) on neonate FAW larvae.…”

“…Thus these applications are not always efficient and can cause several problems to human and the environment. The damage magnitude caused by S. frugiperda has induced the development of alternative methods such as the use of biological control (Thomazoni et al, 2014), resistant plants (Toscano et al, 2016), plants with insecticidal action (Almeida et al, 2017) and resistance elicitors (War et al, 2015). The induction of resistance is a viable alternative, being a management practice that can be done with applications of abiotic inducers.…”
