Eugenia uniflora L.: potential uses as a bioactive plant

Abstract: Natural products extracted from plants have always played an important role in the discovery of bioactive substances. This work carried out a review of the literature on the bioactive activities of Eugenia uniflora L. (Surinam cherries), as a potential plant in the various uses, be it medicinal, antimicrobial, antioxidant, insecticide and protective. In the literature, studies were found to confirm the antibacterial activity of E. uniflora leaves extract on Streptococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aer… Show more

“…However, by using a solid-phase extraction technique, this is the first study to identify and quantify quercetin by HPLC, which contributes to quality control studies of plant extracts. The βsitosterol isolated from DEE was previously described by Samy et al [32], in the EtOAc fraction obtained from the methanolic extract of E. uniflora leaves. The flavonoids and steroids found in E. uniflora have been documented as natural bioactive products with potent anticancer activity [33,34].…”
