Use of probiotics in atopic dermatitis

Abstract: SUMMARY Atopic dermatitis is a common skin disease. Its increased incidence has changed the focus of research on atopic dermatitis toward epidemiology, prevention, and treatment. Evidence suggests that intestinal microbiota plays an important role in the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis inducing immunosuppression, but its exact mechanism is still unclear. Probiotics have been widely reported to act on the immune system. They are living microorganisms with immunomodulatory effects that stimulate Th1 cytokines … Show more

“…Other physiological effects of whey protein are reduction of cardiac risk factors by improving glucose level and insulin response because of the insulinotropic effect of its amino acids 36 . Furthermore, the effectiveness of whey protein in treating skin disorders such as moderate to severe atopic dermatitis has been proved in humans 37,38 . The prevention or treatment of skin allergies 39 and the improvement of diabetic ulcers are the other results of laboratory studies on the effects of whey protein 40,41 .…”

“…In patients with AD, intestinal permeability is increased, inducing the transfer of exogenous antigens. 48,49 Probiotics modulate the intestinal microbiome, improve the intestinal barrier, and modulate the intestine-skin immune axis. 48,49 Furthermore, the frequency of Treg cells in CD4+ T cells is reduced in patients with AD.…”

“…В связи с появлением все большего количества новых знаний о влиянии микробиома организма человека на его здоровье активно обсуждается эффективность пробиотических препаратов в лечении ряда заболеваний, обусловленных нарушением состава здорового микробиома. На сегодняшний день таких исследований немного, тем не менее описаны клинические примеры достижения положительного эффекта в лечении тяжелых форм атопического дерматита у детей с помощью пробиотика, содержащего в составе штаммы бактерий Bifidobacterium lactis HN019, Lactobacillus acidophilus NCFM, Lactobacillus rhamnosus HN001, Lactobacillus paracasei LPC-37 [58].…”
