Diagnostic and prognostic significance of long noncoding RNA LINC00173 in patients with melanoma

Abstract: OBJECTIVE:A growing volume of literature has suggested long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) as important players in tumor progression. In this study, we aimed to investigate the expression and prognostic value of lncRNA LINC00173 (LINC00173) in melanoma. METHODS: LINC00173 expression was measured in 163 paired cancerous and noncancerous specimen samples by real-time polymerase chain reaction. The correlations between LINC00173 expression with clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis were analyzed by chi-squa… Show more

“…However, studies have not fully revealed the functions of LINC00173 in other cancers. On the other hand, five reports predict that LINC00173 may be involved in the development of diseases through bioinformatics analysis [ 19 , 73 , 74 , 75 , 76 ], Thus, it is necessary to study the biological function and molecular mechanism of LINC00173 in human diseases by molecular experiments.…”

“…Shi et al investigated the role of lncRNA H19 in melanoma and found H19 was highly expressed in melanoma tissues compared to normal adjacent skin tissues and H19 expression levels were significantly higher in patients with metastatic melanoma compared to melanoma patients without distant metastasis ( p < 0.01) [ 24 ]. Similarly, long intergenic ncRNA 173 (LINC00173) expression was significantly higher in melanoma tissues compared to adjacent non-neoplastic tissues ( p < 0.01) and was expressed more frequently in melanoma patients with distant metastasis compared to patients at an earlier stage of melanoma [ 41 ]. Another study found that lncRNA LINC02249 expression was significantly elevated in cutaneous melanoma samples and a high expression of LINC02249 was associated with shorter overall survival in melanoma patients [ 42 ].…”

“…We were very pleased to read the article entitled “Diagnostic and prognostic significance of long noncoding RNA LINC00173 in patients with melanoma” by Wang et al 1 In this study, the authors revealed that LINC00173 expression was abnormally elevated in melanoma and may serve as a novel biomarker for predicting diagnosis and clinical progression of melanoma patients. However, some concerns need to be raised from our opinion.…”
