Rollover Index for the Diagnosis of Tripped and Untripped Rollovers

Abstract: It is necessary to detect danger as soon as possible to avoid rollover of a vehicle in sudden events. Using rollover index in real time can be used for this purpose. The traditional rollover indices currently applying in the vehicles can only detect the untripped rollover due to severe lateral acceleration in vehicles. These indices cannot detect the tripped rollover resulted from vertical external forces in a long direction. There are recently many quantitative studies about the tripped rollover and an index … Show more

“…Saga et al [11] investigated possibilities of a fuzzy technique in a vehicle dynamic analysis by computer simulations. Kazemian et al [12][13] presented the rollover index and new dynamics of suspension system in order to study the vehicle's dynamic behavior by computer simulations. Rajamani [14] and Gillespie [15] studied the vehicle dynamics and its subsystems such as tire in order to study on the vehicle's dynamic behavior, such as roll and yaw dynamics, by considering the dynamics' basics [16].…”

“…This research dealt with only simulations of the UGV to prove the applicability of adaptive control technique in mitigating the vehicle rollover; therefore, further research needs to be conducted on the real UGV. ; f [1] = intgData->f [1]; f [2] = intgData->f [2]; f [3] = intgData->f [3]; f [4] = intgData->f [4]; f [5] = intgData->f [5]; f [6] = intgData->f [6]; f [7] = intgData->f [7]; f [8] = intgData->f [8]; f [9] = intgData->f [9]; f [10] = intgData->f [10]; f [11] = intgData->f [11]; f [12] = intgData->f [12]…”

“…The first step in enhancing the rollover resistance is to determine the rollover index (RI), where Rollover index is defined as the variable that indicates the likelihood for vehicle to roll over [9], and it has to be determined or calculated in real time for appropriate action to be taken to prevent roll over.…”
