Adaptation of Collins' revised adult attachment dimensional scale to the Chilean context

Abstract: The Adult Attachment Revised Scale is a measure of relationship attachment that contains three dimensions: closeness, dependence and anxiety. In Study 1, the scale was translated and applied to a sample of 420 university students in order to assess reliability. In addition, the scale criterion validity was estimated through measures of self-perception and affectivity. The results of Study 1 supported the internal consistency of two dimensions of attachment, but dependence was lower than expected (α = .62). A c… Show more

“…Previous research reported good adequacy of the statistical indices of the RAAS for Chilean (Fernández & Dufey, 2015) and Portuguese (Canavarro, Dias, & Lima, 2006) samples. Working with samples of Chilean university students (N = 420), Fernández and Dufey (2015) conducted two studies aiming to validate the tool. In the first, the reliability of the dimension DEPENDENCE was low (α = 0.62) and the factorial analysis did not reach the convergent adjustment in the DEPENDENCE dimension.…”

“…Continuous variables indicate changes in the dimensions 'Close' (closeness with others), 'Depend' (trusting other people's helpfulness), and attachment-related 'Anxiety' and 'Avoidance'. Adequate psychometric properties have been documented in a variety of cultural settings (Fernández & Dufey, 2015;Ripardo, Ferreira, & Howat-Rodrigues, 2019) including a Danish study of 3,352 respondents (Pedersen, 2006).…”

“…In this Likert-type scale scores may range from 1 (“not at all characteristic of me”) to 5 (“very characteristic of me”). We computed a global index of attachment security (current α = .87 for the Chilean adapted version; Fernández & Dufey, 2015).…”
