Ozonized solutions favor the repair of experimentally induced skin wounds in rats

Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate and compare the effects of ozonized solutions on tissue wound repair in rats. Treatments consisted of ozonized water (GA), 0.9% sodium chloride (GCL), ozonized oil (GO), and 0.2% allantoin cream (GAL). The morphometric evaluation showed that wounds of the GA group presented a higher degree of retraction (p<0.05) at three and eight days of treatment (37.96 and 84.81%, respectively). Picrosirius red staining showed that groups GA and GO presented higher deposition (p<0.05) of t… Show more

“…A third study found smaller wound sizes with medium and high concentrations of ozonated aloe vera oil on day 3 and smaller wound sizes with low, medium, and high concentrations on day 7 as compared to controls ( P < 0.05) 25 . Findings from four remaining studies comparing the size of wounds treated with various ozonated oils to control and standard treatment were somewhat mixed but generally trended towards ozonated liquids producing smaller wound size than comparators 22,24,25,28 . A 2014 study found significantly smaller wounds in rats treated with ozonated sesame oil as compared to pure oil by day 12 ( P < 0.05) but no difference was found in wound size between rats treated with ozonated oil and those treated with framycetin 22 .…”

“…22 In a 2020 study utilising rats, wounds treated with ozonated water or saline were found to be significantly smaller on day 3 and 8 than wounds treated with ozonated sunflower oil, or 0.2% allantoin cream ( P < 0.05). 24 A 2017 study of wounds on 24 rats found a smaller wound size ratio on days 3, 5, and 7 in rats receiving ozonated oil versus control. 27 Lastly, in 60 rats with induced diabetes, wounds treated over a 14‐day period with ozonated coconut oil were significantly smaller than wounds treated with pure coconut oil or gentamycin ointment.…”
