Seleção de progênies femininas de mamoeiro para resistência a mancha-de-phoma via modelos mistos

Abstract: Landrace genotypes present sources of genes for adaptation, rusticity and resistance to diseases and environmental stress. This study evaluated the potential of landrace papaya genotypes in contributing to phoma-spot resistance genes. The experiment was a randomized block design with six replications consisted of 24 half-sib progenies of dioecious papaya -which segregated for sex. Only plants with female flowers were evaluated. We used mixed models to estimate variance components and the genetic value of landr… Show more

“…Resende (2007) states that the REML/BLUP methodology puts the potential genotypes into an order for selection, exploring all the genotype variation among and within progenies, however, considering each trait analyzed separately. This procedure has been shown to be efficient, for passion fruit (Freitas et al 2016, Santos et al 2015, guava (Paiva et al 2016), and papaya (Oliveira et al 2012, Vivas et al 2014.…”

“…For the individual values, the classical selection index proposed by Smith (1936) and Hazel (1943) was used with three variations: (i) non-standardized means (NSM) obtained by the phenotypic evaluation of the variables, (ii) standardized means (SM) obtained by (c-c)/s 2 c , where c is the arithmetic mean of the individual, c is the overall mean of the characteristic, and s 2 c is the standard deviation, and (iii) genotypic values predicted by mixed models (GVP). The following economic weights were defined as proposed by Ramos et al (2014), Vivas et al (2014) and in the objectives of the Incaper breeding program: PH, WF, and LF = 1; SC = 5; IHFF = −10; PT = 50; MF = 20; SS = 100; PSL, BSL, and BSF = −30.…”

“…A feasible approach for increasing the number of commercial varieties and hybrids is to expand the genetic base of papaya by exploiting the variability existing in germplasm banks (Quintal et al, 2012;Vivas et al, 2015;Silva et al, 2017) and creating new hybrids in breeding programs (Pereira et al, 2002). Efforts should be made to broaden the genetic base and develop cultivars that meet the requirements of domestic and foreign markets and are less susceptible to pests and diseases and more resistant to biotic and abiotic stresses (Vivas et al, 2012(Vivas et al, , 2014(Vivas et al, , 2015.…”
