Biphasic Liquid-Liquid Extraction of Biosurfactant from Lactobacillus delbrueckii

Abstract: The present work is focused mainly on optimizing the extraction of glycoprotein-biosurfactant (BS) produced by Lactobacillus delbrueckii in a biphasic liquid-liquid extraction. The production yield of BS is significantly affected by extraction strategies instead of the whole fermentation process, so it becomes a straightforward approach to enhance BS yield while optimizing various extraction parameters. The tailoring of process parameters for BS extraction was achieved by OFAT (one factor at a time) strategy a… Show more

“…The BS was lyophilized (0.12 mbar, 80°C) and stored at 4°C. Furthermore, structural characterization by different techniques such as FTIR, NMR, and TLC evaluated BS as a glycoprotein reported in prior study (Goyal & Singh, 2022).…”

“…The culture broth was centrifuged (10,000 rpm for 20 min at 4°C) to separate the solid biomass. The BS in cell-free broth was solvent extracted as described by previous lab research (Goyal & Singh, 2022). Briefly, solvent was evaporated by rotary evaporator (Rotary Evaporator, Popular India Ltd.) at 50°C.…”

“…In liquid-liquid extraction separation of required material from liquid solution is made through contact with another insoluble liquid. The required material is separated based on its solubility in different liquids (Chen et al, 2017;El Blidi et al, 2019;Goyal and Singh, 2022).…”

“…Until now, oil palm empty fruit bunches have not been used optimally. So far, OPEFB has only been used as raw Generally, there are three main sections of biosurfactant production including pretreatment, fermentation, and purification process [5]. The high demand for biosurfactant production and high production costs have caused many studies to focus on the optimization of production design, extraction process, purification, and characterization [6].…”
