“…It is unlikely that a combination of hormonal drugs used in this study exerted negative effects on embryo viability although their direct influence on embryo health remains to be tested. Earlier studies have shown that treatment of goats with PGF 2 α (Fonseca et al., ), PGF 2 α+OT (Pereira, Sohnrey, & Holtz, ) or ewes with EB+OT (Wulster‐Radcliffe, Costine, & Lewis, ) prior to embryo recovery did not adversely affect embryo quality. Transfer of embryos recovered from donor goats pretreated with cloprostenol for 16 hr prior to embryo recovery resulted in nearly 60% pregnancy rate when both the fresh or frozen‐thawed, good and excellent quality embryos were used (Fonseca et al., ).…”

Earlier studies have shown that treatment of goats with PGF 2 α (Fonseca et al, 2014), PGF 2 α+OT (Pereira, Sohnrey, & Holtz, 1998) TA B L E 3 Number of Santa Inês ewes' responses (Grades 1-5) for degree of difficulty to transverse the uterine cervix at oestrus and prior to embryo flushing (6-7 days after the onset of oestrus). Embryo recovery was attempted after an application of the cervical dilation protocols * using oestradiol benzoate (EB) administered by intramuscular (EBim) or intravaginal (EBivg) route cervix, Grade 3 to the intermediated cervix and Grades 4 and 5 to the highly asymmetrical cervix.…”

“…It is important to highlight that we believe there are important advantages in the use of goat as a model, such as the low cost of maintaining a goat and its easy of handling compared to other productive species (e.g., cow). Moreover, the success of oocyte/ embryo transfer and recovery in the goat species is well recognized (FONSECA et al, 2013(FONSECA et al, , 2014(FONSECA et al, , 2016.…”

“…The female goat was prepared to receive COCs, as described earlier. COCs were transferred (FONSECA et al, 2014) and recovered (FONSECA et al, 2013) through a transcervical route. Briefly, under sedation and anesthesia, the goat was kept in a standing position and contained within an appropriate box.…”
